Interview with Arib
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Dosing off by Chandresh, an edm track I produced in 2017, I like the vibe of this song😀
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Some Country tracks,
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Matty Harris! I have learnt alot from him on his YouTube channel and his work is top notch!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Tough one. If I had to chose one of course I would say Digital since I can get both the digital and analog emulated tools. But of course given the option a hybrid of both is best.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I aim to satisfy your needs! It’s not done until you say so. We will always work to find a solution to your needs.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Being a part of creating something new! It’s always exciting to know that you got to participate in something new being created.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Do you think the song is done? Does it need more parts added Answer: less is more, a song is never fully done until it’s released.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Expecting to return the rough mix, I believe you hire a mixer to get your song to where it needs to be, and they work best when you allow them to bring their touch to your music.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What do you want me to achieve with this mix? What references do you have in mind for this project?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Get it right at the source, and define your sound from the get go, it gets easier from their
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Definitely my MacBook Pro, my HD650 headphones, my interface, my Yamaha Hs8
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I am a banker by profession, but music has been a part of my life since I was young. I started mKing beats over 16 years ago, but I found that I was best suited to mixing.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: A mixture of many genres definitely! I like punchy and clear mixes
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Chris Brown! I respect his work ethic but most of all he really has that thing that gets to me deeply! It’s an emotional thing 😀
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don’t second guess yourself while producing! That silly idea might be what the song needs! Follow your heart!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I like to work on organic stuff like country, acoustic and rock, but I have grown up listen to hip hop, pop , RnB and EDM, so I can work on any of those genres.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I like to see my self as a technician with a touch of artistic eye. I believe mixing is really about decision making and having started as a producer, I believe I have what it takes to take your mixes where they need to go.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My interpretation of what the song should sound like. After all that’s why you hire me!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I always start by listening to the reference mix and listen to the levels of instruments mainly. From there I go on with how I feel the song should sound, I trust my initial feelings and go from there. I then share with the artist what I have and bounce ideas back and forth until they are satisfied.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My setup in a fully in the box setup around Logic Pro X, my I use mainly my Yamaha Hs8 with room correction and a pair of Sennheiser HD650 headphones for mixing as well as my trusted iLoud micro monitors for referencing.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Teezio (Chris Brown’s engineer), Chris Lord Alge, Jaycen Joshua
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I typically do mixing work and recording work. For mixing I also offer a mastered mix for reference or as a final release for clients. I can also do stem mastering, mixing of a particular instrument group ( eg, mixing vocals for an instrumental), pitch correction, etc.
