Los Angeles-based professional artist/songwriter/musician, previously signed to Sony/ATV Music Publishing, with a bachelor's degree in music composition and arranging. I have cuts released by Alyson Stoner, Lenay Chantelle and more, as well as 5 singles released so far under my own artist project, J. Human.
Hello! I am a UK-born, Nashville-bred artist, songwriter, and musician who's been eating, sleeping, and breathing music since before I was born. I have a catalog of over 200 songs, born from hundreds of cowrites over the years, and I've worked with everyone from Kevin Kadish (Meghan Trainor) and Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift) to Soaky Siren (Jason Derulo) and Allee Willis (Earth, Wind, and Fire; The Color Purple).
As a professional songwriter, I have extensive experience writing for other artists, writing for TV/Film, and writing for myself as an artist. I've done countless demo sessions cutting vocals for my own songs and for other artist pitches, and as an artist who co-produces all his own material, I have played keys, drums, synths, guitar, bass, etc. on my own records, as well as for many others. As a composer/arranger, I have experience with orchestral and big band arrangements and compositions. As a session singer, I have tons of experience writing and recording my own vocals, as well as recording demo and guide vocals for other artists in a wide array of genres, from country and christian music to r&b, rap, and EDM.
My passion is helping others realize their artistic visions in any way I can, and if that sounds like something you're looking for, hit the 'contact' button above and let's figure out how I can help you realize yours!

Interview with Joel Human
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Outside of the services I provide here on Soundbetter, my primary pursuit is my solo artist career, which goes by the moniker "J. Human." I just started releasing songs last year and already have almost 300k streams on Spotify alone, and have performed live more times than I can count in about as many configurations as you can imagine. You can check out my music here: https://open.spotify.com/artist/15mmRiyrir7x3GsD2PraUa?si=7vuX36OQRyuKlhV43ECVZw
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been doing music since I was born. I grew up in a musical family, the son of two singers, and started playing piano from age 5, AFTER I told my parents I wanted to play drums. I graduated from Belmont University with a Bachelor's degree in commercial music, which covered a variety of disciplines from classical and pop singing to jazz piano to writing and arranging full orchestral and big band pieces. I've been trained as a conductor, as a orchestrator, a songwriter, a session singer, a keys player, etc. I spent three years as a staff songwriter and artist with Sony/ATV after college, and gained a wealth of practical knowledge from writing 5 days a week, in every style imaginable. I've been in a million rooms and written a wide variety of songs, and played a million different roles in those rooms.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I believe my strongest skill is my breadth of perspective. I'm a generalist, not a specialist, which gives me a wide variety of ways to look at things and get around obstacles, writer's block, etc. All of the hats I wear lend me a very unique view of the creative process, and I'm able to bounce around from role to role fairly seamlessly.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a strong sense of melody and phrasing, along with a musician's ear for arrangement that you won't be able to find with most vocalists. I'm a big fan of word play and have been known to flip a catchphrase or two to add some smiles or a different way of communicating an idea.
