Interview with Milton Foster
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process for music production involves sitting down in front of my keyboard to compose a chord progression as the starting point of my compositions, or very often scanning through my library of samples to develop a compositional idea from scratch. My DAW of preference for composition is FL Studio, seeing that I have worked with this DAW for around 7 years, but I also enjoy the speed with which compositions come to life with Native Instruments Maschine software and hardware, so this tend to be a good starting point to flesh out some production ideas as well. For mixing, in my opinion, you can't go wrong by using Pro Tools, as it's design facilitates relatively easy and quick manipulation of audio files (provided you have a deep enough understanding of audio signal flow). I tend to meticulously name and organize per category the different tracks in my Pro Tools session in order to make session navigation more fluid. From there, I clip gain the clips to provide a level that won't clip analog or analog modelled software on the way in for processing. All of my editing occurs in the box currently.
