Manchester based Producer. One half of electronic pop duo Aforest. Tracks featured in Apple Music's 'best of' playlists, Line of Best Fit, H&M instore playlist & amassed 10m+ streams. I have worked with artists from across Europe including Henry Green, Siobhán and a number of emerging artists within the genres of Bedroom Pop, Indie & R&B.
I am versatile and work across many different genres. I specialise in Bedroom Pop, Indie Electronic and Contemporary R&B. I most enjoy writing music that blends genres effortlessly. Some artists that currently inspire me are: Maggie Rogers, Jai Paul & Mura Masa.
I have experience collaborating both remotely & in studio. I can work from demos/voice memos or provide the final push to a work in progress. I can provide you production, mixing, tracking, songwriting and arrangement. I also have skills in piano, synthesizers, and drum programming. In 2016 I achieved a Bachelors Degree in Music.
My production and mixing work has garnered 10m+ streams and a feature on Apple Music’s 'Best Of' playlist. My work with Siobhán has landed Spotify's New Music Friday, and the Our Generation editorial playlist. My Solo project 'Shute' has been placed on editorial playlists and played in H&M.
With the mass availability of music software, it's important to carve a niche and make a lasting sonic imprint. Whilst I appreciate and use sample packs such as Native Instruments & Splice, I prefer manipulating project audio + applying innovative production techniques to make something original and fresh. This can help realise the sonic potential of your track and standout from the noise.
My rates are reasonable. So if you are looking to give your project the edge, get in touch!

Interview with Jack Shuter
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I typically work in the box on Logic Pro X, monitoring through Yamaha HS7 Monitors via a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 interface. My favourite plugins are the Soundtoys and Fabfilter suites. I program drums using Maschine Studio, and have a Korg Minilogue for synth parts, and a Roland FA 06 Digital Keyboard workstation. I have built up a huge library of sounds and samples through the years to suit various different writing situations. I also have the full Native Instruments Komplete sample library, several additional third party Kontakt Libraries and access to Splice.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My production and mixing work on Henry Green’s ‘Real’ EP, and debut album ‘Shift’, garnered 10m+ streams and features on Apple Music’s best of playlist, and The Line of Best Fit. The ‘Shift’ sessions took place in the legendary Funkhaus studio in Berlin, in a collaboration with German Producer Nico Rebscher (Aurora, Alice Merton). I learnt alot about how effective communication, and working within a team towards an end goal. This project subsequently led to work as a session musician in the live setup playing keys/synths and launching samples. Notable shows were Glastonbury Festival + Two European tours.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are the goals and ambition for the project? Are you a new artist looking to develop a signature sound? Or are you an established artist wanting new material to fit in with your existing body of work? Together we can carve out a new identity, or reinforce your existing one through our sessions to create tracks we are both excited about.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Aswell as the skills on offer, look at the personality and social skills. It’s important to make sessions productive, but equally they need to be enjoyable. Much of songwriting and production is about finding that spark of inspiration, harnessing the excitement and allowing it to develop. I believe that a clear communication, open mindedness and a comfortable environment will allow the best ideas to flourish.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Billie Eilish - she's got such a clear vocal style and has immense skill in layering her voice. A producer's dream!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I like to see if we can find any shared influences and common ground, discuss the ideas which best excite us and try to find the spark in an initial idea and follow it, whether it be a chord, vocal idea, or a sample/atmosphere.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: James Blake, Mura Masa, Jai Paul, Maggie Rogers and Clairo. Jai Paul & James Blake in particular have been so influential on alot of the electronic pop music being created since their emergence. I've made a playlist of some the productions that are inspiring me at the moment: https://smarturl.it/ShuteInspirations
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Creative production, additional drum programming, keys/synth parts aswell as editing, mixing + arrangement.
