Interview with Toni Dijmarescu
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both are great options.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: An acoustic guitar would be enough.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: First, I listen carefully to the song and to the client's expectations and wishes; then, I start creating and recording the required parts.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I record and perform exclusively with the Kemper Profiling Amp, because it's the best and most reliable piece of equipment I've ever owned.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I treat all my projects equally, I love them all.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: A couple of new songs for an important project.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will always deliver what you have in mind.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Making music, getting to know people.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Q "Why on Earth didn't I hire you for my previous projects?" A "Because now it's the right time, so let's get to it"
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That I'm making lots of money.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Hire only the musicians who deliver quality work, on time.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Hard to define, because I play for/with the song and get into the song's mood.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Max Martin, because he is the best modern music producer, in my opinion.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always deliver your parts 1-2 weeks before the deadline.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: From Classic Rock to Metal.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I can be creative (and put my own touch on the song) or play exactly as required - works both for me.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Too much to mention, from Abba to ZZ Top.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Studio recordings, live/TV performances, songwriting.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I make music since I was 6 years old, so my whole life. Got my first band at the age of 15, and my first record contract with 20.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: "What's the deadline?" :)
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Creativity
