Hello! My name is Joe Bateman, recording artist with 4 years topline writing/vocal session experience. I was awarded a scholarship at LACM in 2018, a publishing deal at the beginning of this year. I've worked on around 60 tracks for clients. My attention to detail is like no one else you'll work with. Have a listen to my showreel and let's talk :)
Since been 14 years old I have been writing songs and two months ago was offered my first publishing deal as a writer. I was awarded a scholarship at the Los Angeles College of Music in 2018 and have worked for the past 4 years as a topline singer and writer.
Among the instruments I play to a high level are guitar, drums, piano, violin, mandolin, synths and, of course, my vocals. I have worked on over 60 songs for clients in the past few years. I have a track released under the name "Winter" which has nearly a million streams on Spotify and I do a lot of work for TV licensing as a producer and composer.
Most people hire me as a singer and/or writer but I am more than comfortable to record instruments and produce the songs as need be. I can also engineer, however, I do not claim this to be my strongest area and am sure there are people here on Soundbetter who can do a better job of engineering than myself. My vocal talents and writing can be heard in my showreel so please have a listen to that.
Look forward to working with you!

Interview with Joe Bateman
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I am proud of a short personal project I worked on in the summer. It was a two day project where I wrote the song, recorded it, mixed and produced it, for both audio and video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_4OGaxstVw
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am working on multiple projects for other clients and an upcoming EP of my own songs
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. It's the world in which we live
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise I will do the very best I can, giving you 110% and believe you will be very happy with the results
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I get to be creative. I can't do normal jobs!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: They ask me if I can certain way to which I honestly will reply that I will give it a shot but that you are buying my voice - not somebody else's
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I look younger than I am
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask varied questions - project dependant
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Don't settle for someone who is not exactly what your song needs
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A good book, a guitar, a toothbrush, a lighter, a raincoat
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have playing the guitar since ten and picked up other instruments as I've been going along. I have worked as a solo artist the most amount of time though one of my most recent projects was as part of an 80s cover band. I currently make my income through sessional lyric/songwriting and singing for other people's tracks
Q: How would you describe your style?

A: I would like to work with John Mayer because his style of playing and genre of music is some of my favourite to play along to. I have a lot of admiration for his work

A: I generally work on pop and rub tracks but am comfortable with a wide rage of genres
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my ability to adapt and create quickly while remaining focused on attention to detail
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I believe I bring a strong amount of creative flare and attempt to add catchy and gripping vocal melodies. As a lyricist I attempt to keep the listener captivated in the theme or story and as a singer I intend to impress
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Typically I will repeatedly listen to the track the client sends me so I can absorb the feeling and direction of the song. After correspondence with the client (to ensure I know what is required) I will systematically record sections of the vocal track according to the scratch vocals - unless otherwise indicated by the client
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I record in a professional home studio through a high end SE Electronics Condenser microphone. This runs through and M-Audio interface with excellent preamps and into a Mac running Logic X
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am inspired by many great singers of different genres and while having a great amount of admiration for their music and voices attempt to create something that fresh and original
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most commonly I sing the lead vocal and a background harmony for my clients. Typically I will receive a scratch vocal recording they have made for a point of reference and we take it from there. Sometimes I am privileged to write lyrics for the song which I find a lot of fun
