Interview with Christian S. Nickel

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: After graduating in music business at the Popakademie BW I got the HOFA College certificate as audio engineer and worked as an intern in a local studio. After that I started working as a freelancer and do that ever since.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Anything really, but a lot of rock and metal.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Steven Wilson, Mikael Akerfeldt, Andy Wallace, Andrew Scheps, Tool.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work at DLA Studios (www.dla-studios.de), a professional recording studio with great acoustics and very good analog outboard equipment.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mostly I do mixing for my clients, getting the best sound possible out of their recordings. I communicate a lot about the sound vision of my artists and try to get the songs as close as possible.
