I'm a Singer/Composer/Producer/Lyricist/Pianist and I have released 7 albums and am working on the next one. I speak English, French, Dutch, German and Spanish, so I can work and write lyrics in different languages as well. I really like a mixture of influences in the music I'm working on and I'm open for a lot of styles. The sky is the limit;-)
Born in Ghent (Belgium) Caroll Vanwelden (1971) started her musical carier when she was 7 where she played the classical piano already. After getting her degree as an engineer, she did her bachelor in Jazz Music at the Conservatory of Ghent and in 1998 she graduated Magna Cum Laude at the ‘Guildhal School of Music and Drama’ in Londen. During her studies she worked with the Iranian Director/Composer Alexander Rahbari who lead de Filharmonic Orchester of Belgium.
After participating in various musical projects, including a tour in China and a tour in Taiwan, she recorded her first album ‘Colours’ with her own compositions. Very attracted to jazz standards and classics, she decides to record her second album ‘Cheek to Cheek’ with classics from the 30ties and afterwards her album ‘Don’t Explain’ with classics from the 40ties. Meanwhile, she moved to Germany and also discovers a huge passion for Brazilian music, and released her 6th album ‘Portraits of Brazil’ (Enja Records) in 2016.
However, her multi-talent as composer, pianist and singer are all featured in her main project, namely her Trilogy where she composed music on 48 Shakespeare Sonnets. The first album, ‘Sings Shakespeare Sonnets’, was released in 2012, then ‘Sings Shakespeare Sonnets 2’ in 2014 and the third part of her Trilogy ‘Sings Shakespeare Sonnets 3’ was released in 2017. She produced her 7 albums herself.
