Interview with Marrius

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: A hybrid of both. The tone and warmth you get from Analog is priceless but the simplicity and flexibility you now have with a DAW and plug ins is a game changer.

  3. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  4. A: "Can I make a song that sounds like 'this' song...?" Yes! I can easily emulate the sound of another song whilst bringing your own twist and making it your song.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Trust and communication. Feel absolutely free to ask as many questions you need, enjoy the process. Don't be afraid to be brutally honest. If you don't get that rush of joy when you listen to something I've done for you, it's not there yet.

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: Macbook Pro | Fender USA Strat | Universal Audio Interface | Neumann Mic | Midi Keyboard

  9. Q: How would you describe your style?

  10. A: Slick, smooth slice of modern electro-pop, seductive Hip-Hop beats, shimmering synths with a soulful pop edge – catchy and alluring. Imagine the sounds of early The Weeknd, jamming with Arctic Monkeys pumped through a French modular synth.

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Serve the song and follow the emotional arch of the music with the production. If the song works with just a guitar/piano and a voice, the foundation is there.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: Understanding people, listening to what they want even if they are not sure themselves. Not being afraid to take risks and thinking outside the box. Allowing people to express themselves fully, because that's where the real joy of making music is. Feeling that you have really expressed who you are or what you wanted to get done. There is no better feeling.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: I work very closely on getting the concept, lyrics and chords right. A meaningful concepts with impactful lyrics, bringing out imagery, allowing the production to complement the track, not interfere with the song, creating the right balance and tension.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: If I'm writing with an artist/songwriter, we usually spend 1 day or 2 honing and tracking ideas. Taking the lead from the client, I'll then produce up the track(s) and submit a mix. The dialogue is always open with the artist, it's their song and I always want to do it justice.
