Interview with Oatee
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Right now it's mostly singer-songwriter type vibes- the covers I've been doing recently have been Neo-Soul and modern R&B and my lyrics change with my mood so it'll be a little different moving forward, I can tell.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'd say right after singing, it's songwriting. I like being in my own little world and remembering and writing and laughing and crying and shouting and smiling because I got this line to say exactly what I wanted it to.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I toy around with thh Scarlett Focusrite Solo Studio. I use the Scarlett studio condenser mic with the XLR cable and mixing headphones of the same brand. I think keeping it all to one brand ensures less hiccups in the recording process and less moving parts to have to deal with; the focus should all be on the music.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Frank Ocean's production on Channel Orange, Watch the Throne, and Beyoncé's "Superpower" blows my mind to this day. Coupled with his poetic style of writing where not eveything has to connect fully to us but he knows exactly what he's talking about is something I emulate in my music.
