Interview with Neylan Ozgule
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m really proud of is when I covered a popular song by a well-known Turkish musician, and it received their approval and appreciation. Being recognized by an artist I admire made the process incredibly meaningful for me. I handled everything from arranging to vocal production, mixing, and mastering. That experience boosted my confidence and deepened my passion for music production.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: At the moment, I’m working on several music production projects that involve songwriting, vocal production, and mixing. I’m also focusing on expanding my skills with Logic Pro X to deliver even better results for my clients.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes, there are many talented professionals on SoundBetter that I respect and would recommend depending on the client’s specific needs. Collaboration and networking are important in this industry, and I believe connecting clients with the right experts helps achieve the best results.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I appreciate both analog and digital tools because each brings something unique. Analog gear offers warmth and character to the sound, while digital tools provide flexibility, precision, and efficiency. Combining both allows me to achieve a rich, polished production that maintains emotional depth.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise to my clients is to fully understand their vision and work with dedication to bring it to life. I commit to clear communication, timely delivery, and high-quality production that truly reflects their artistic identity.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I like most about my job is the creative freedom and the opportunity to bring ideas to life through music. I love collaborating with artists and helping them express their emotions and stories in a way that resonates with listeners. Every project feels unique and rewarding.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Customers often ask about my process, how long it takes to complete a project, and what I need from them to get started. I explain that I focus on understanding their vision first, then work step-by-step on songwriting, vocal production, arrangement, mixing, and mastering. The timeline depends on the project, and clear communication from both sides is key to a smooth process.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: One of the biggest misconceptions about what I do is that music production is just about pressing buttons or using software. In reality, it requires a lot of creativity, emotional understanding, and technical skill to bring a song to life and make it sound professional.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: When working with new clients, I like to ask about their musical style and influences, the mood or message they want to convey, and any specific ideas or references they have. I also ask about their experience with music production and their goals for the project to make sure we’re on the same page from the start.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: My advice for customers looking to hire a music producer is to clearly communicate their vision and be open to collaboration. A good producer listens carefully and works closely with the artist to bring out the best in their music. Trust the process, be patient, and don’t hesitate to share your ideas and feedback throughout the project.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: If I were on a desert island and could only take five pieces of gear, I’d choose a portable audio interface, a laptop with Logic Pro X installed, a good-quality microphone, headphones, and a MIDI keyboard. These tools would allow me to keep creating music even in a remote place.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been working professionally in music production for many years, honing my skills in songwriting, arranging, and producing with Logic Pro X. In addition to producing, I’m also a singer, which helps me connect deeply with the music and the artists I work with. Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about bringing creative ideas to life and continuously improving my craft.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would describe my style as a blend of emotional melody and modern production techniques. I focus on creating arrangements that highlight the feelings behind the lyrics while keeping the sound fresh and contemporary. My goal is to make music that connects deeply with listeners and feels authentic.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with artists who have a strong emotional connection to their music, such as Adele or Billie Eilish. Their ability to convey deep feelings through their songs inspires me, and I believe collaborating with them would be a great opportunity to create meaningful and powerful music together.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: One important music production tip I always follow is to focus on the arrangement and make sure every element has its own space in the mix. This helps the song sound clear and balanced, preventing the instruments and vocals from clashing with each other.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on a variety of genres, but I especially enjoy producing and arranging pop, indie, and acoustic music. I love creating emotional and melodic songs that connect with listeners. However, I’m flexible and open to working on different styles to bring the artist’s vision to life.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my ability to blend creativity with technical knowledge. I’m really good at turning lyrics or ideas into compelling melodies and arrangements that capture the emotion of the song. Also, my expertise in Logic Pro X allows me to produce high-quality tracks with polished mixing and mastering. I’m patient and communicative, making sure the client’s vision is fully realized throughout the process.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring my creativity and technical skills to every song. I love crafting melodies and arrangements that truly express the feelings behind the lyrics. Using Logic Pro X, I make sure every sound fits the style and vibe of the track. With mixing and mastering, I ensure the song sounds great and professional everywhere it’s played. Most importantly, I work closely with the artist to bring their vision and style to life in the best way possible.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process starts with understanding the client’s vision and musical style. I like to have a detailed conversation to learn about the mood, genre, and specific elements they want in their track. If the client has lyrics or a poem, I carefully analyze the words to create a fitting melody and arrangement that enhances the emotion. Next, I use Logic Pro X to craft the beat, instrumentation, and overall arrangement, ensuring every part supports the song’s atmosphere. I keep communication open throughout, sharing drafts and seeking feedback to refine the work according to the client’s preferences. Once the arrangement is approved, I proceed with mixing and mastering to achieve a polished, professional sound ready for release. I deliver the final track in high-quality WAV and MP3 formats. For those interested in learning, I also offer personalized Logic Pro X lessons, tailored to the student’s experience and goals, focusing on songwriting, arranging, and production techniques. Overall, my approach is collaborative, detail-oriented, and focused on bringing the client’s musical ideas to life with clarity and creativity.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I record in a quiet, treated home studio using a condenser microphone and Logic Pro. My setup is simple but powerful enough to deliver high-quality vocals and arrangements with emotional impact.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by artists who blend emotion, atmosphere, and originality — like Aurora, Florence Welch, Björk, and Agnes Obel. Their ability to create immersive worlds through sound and voice has deeply influenced my approach to songwriting, arranging, and vocal performance. I also admire producers like Olafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm for their ability to balance simplicity with emotional impact.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I’m a versatile musician working as a vocalist, arranger, and songwriter across multiple genres including pop, indie, cinematic, and alternative styles. My clients often come to me for full song creation — from topline and lyrics to vocal performance and arrangement. Whether you need an emotional vocal delivery, a unique melodic idea, or a complete production with soul, I’m here to bring your music to life with authenticity and depth.
