Interview with Alexei Galar
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Ventana Amarilla. I composed original music and did sounds design for a 3 act theatre play that premiered on September 30th 2021. I am proud of successfully directing a whole team of musicians, engineers and composers, to the satisfaction of both the director and producer of the show.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: A project involving spatial-generative music, and food. Yes, food.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You will be surprised. And many times.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The opportunity to work with different artist, with different backgrounds, and grow together.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: - What do you want to achieve with this (goals and business)? - What is your target audience?
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Computer, interface, mic, MIDI keyboard, cables (is that cheating?)
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Learn to let go. Just because you loved that one specific guitar/voice/etc part, doesn't have to mean it ends in the final recording.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Being diverse. Music for media has given me the opportunity to work in a wide range of productions, from psychedelic theatre, to punk albums. Hence, I can bring innovation to the table, and expertise in trying unconventional paths.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Ludwig Göransson, Kevin Parker, Johnny Greenwood. These artist transcend what is music for any type of media.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Composing, sound design and producing pre-existing raw material.
