Interview with Maximilian Ikarus
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. I'm 26. I learned it that way. Nothing wrong with analog preamps tho.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: A never heard sound if you want that. Let's find a complete unique style for you. There would be no Travis Scott without his signature sound. Let's find that.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Recording studio at a daily basis.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Different people, artists vibin together. Finding the right sound for the artists vision is just magic.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Q: "What's the price?" A: depends on what you want! Q: "Can you get that done by tomorrow?" A: Could you pay me by today?
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The engineer is just a tool. Thats false. I have to feel the song just like the artist. If I can't feel it I won't do it.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: How many songs in how much time? What have you done till today? What do you want do keep? What do you want to do different from now?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Try to be open to find another recording ARTIST and not just a robot who sets the gear like you want it. You want a person who thinks for its own? I'm your man!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: MacBook Pro, Apollo Twin, Rode Nt1, Focal Alpha 65, Ableton Live
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Started to record artists for small money when I was 16. Now I'm 26 and I haven't stopped since. Over 100 Artists with countless releases. Over 6 own releases. Just started working internationally.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Experimental, Melodic, Harmonic and full of details.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Tua. I started making music the way I do bacause of his debut album "Grau". Childhood dreams.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't overthink it. And don't be "by the book". Suprise yourself.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly Hip-hop, Trap, Neo-Soul and Rnb. Mostly solo-artists.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Mixing. Vocal correction. I can let EVERYONE sing. And bringing the extra amount of harmonics and melody to your song.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Creative Mixing and advanced arrangement skills. Let's find out how we can push your song to the next level of creativity and tension.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Listen to the artists idea. Work it out. Record it. Mix it. Improve it. Hate it. Love it. Hand it in.
