Interview with Maximilian Ikarus

  1. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  2. A: Recording and Mixing at a daily basis. Vocal Editing, Track Arrangements etc.

  3. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  4. A: Tua, Bon Iver and Mike Dean.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: Rugged, 25 years old recording studio. No fancy sh*t. It's all about the vibe!

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: Listen to the artists idea. Work it out. Record it. Mix it. Improve it. Hate it. Love it. Hand it in.

  9. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  10. A: Creative Mixing and advanced arrangement skills. Let's find out how we can push your song to the next level of creativity and tension.

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: Mixing. Vocal correction. I can let EVERYONE sing. And bringing the extra amount of harmonics and melody to your song.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: Mostly Hip-hop, Trap, Neo-Soul and Rnb. Mostly solo-artists.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Don't overthink it. And don't be "by the book". Suprise yourself.

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: Tua. I started making music the way I do bacause of his debut album "Grau". Childhood dreams.

  19. Q: How would you describe your style?

  20. A: Experimental, Melodic, Harmonic and full of details.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: Started to record artists for small money when I was 16. Now I'm 26 and I haven't stopped since. Over 100 Artists with countless releases. Over 6 own releases. Just started working internationally.

  23. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  24. A: MacBook Pro, Apollo Twin, Rode Nt1, Focal Alpha 65, Ableton Live

  25. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  26. A: Try to be open to find another recording ARTIST and not just a robot who sets the gear like you want it. You want a person who thinks for its own? I'm your man!

  27. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  28. A: How many songs in how much time? What have you done till today? What do you want do keep? What do you want to do different from now?

  29. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  30. A: The engineer is just a tool. Thats false. I have to feel the song just like the artist. If I can't feel it I won't do it.

  31. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  32. A: Q: "What's the price?" A: depends on what you want! Q: "Can you get that done by tomorrow?" A: Could you pay me by today?

  33. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  34. A: Different people, artists vibin together. Finding the right sound for the artists vision is just magic.

  35. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  36. A: Recording studio at a daily basis.

  37. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  38. A: A never heard sound if you want that. Let's find a complete unique style for you. There would be no Travis Scott without his signature sound. Let's find that.

  39. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  40. A: Digital. I'm 26. I learned it that way. Nothing wrong with analog preamps tho.
