Interview with KTG Redd

  1. Q: What's your typical work process?

  2. A: I start by reviewing the client’s files, project details, and creative direction. From there, I organize and clean up the session, edit vocals and audio as needed, then mix the track for clarity, balance, and impact. After the mix is complete, I master the final track and make any requested revisions. My goal is to deliver a polished, professional track that stays true to the artist’s vision.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: One project I’m especially proud of is my work with independent rap artist Major Bugatti Called "Motion". I served as the Recording and Mixing Engineer, working closely with him to capture his sound and bring the record together sonically. I handled the recording process and mixed the track to create a clean, balanced, and impactful sound while maintaining the energy and character of the performance. This project stands out to me because it allowed me to combine my technical skills with my understanding of Hip-Hop as both an artist and an engineer. It’s a great example of how I approach working with independent artists—understanding their vision and helping turn it into a finished record.

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: Right now, I’m focused on continuing to grow as a Recording, Mixing, and Mastering Engineer while expanding KTG Music Group. I’m working with artists on developing their sound, improving the quality of their recordings, and creating polished, professional music. I’m also continuing to build my experience in A&R and artist development, while looking for opportunities to collaborate with new artists and music professionals.

  7. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  8. A: Not at the moment, but maybe in the future.

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: I prefer digital because it gives me the flexibility, precision, and control needed for modern music production. Digital tools allow me to record, edit, mix, and master efficiently while making detailed adjustments without compromising the artist’s creative vision. It also gives me access to a wide range of professional plugins and processing tools to achieve the sound each record needs.

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: My promise is to treat every project with professionalism, attention to detail, and respect for the artist’s vision. I will communicate clearly, deliver quality work, and put the same level of care into every record, whether it’s a single song or a larger project. My goal is to make sure every client receives a finished product they can be proud to put their name on.

  13. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  14. A: What I like most about my job is being able to take an artist’s ideas and help turn them into a finished record. I enjoy the creative process of recording, mixing, and mastering, but what I value most is hearing the transformation from a raw recording into something polished and impactful. I also enjoy working with different artists, learning their sound, and helping them bring their vision to life.

  15. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  16. A: Q: Can you make my song sound professional? A: Yes. I focus on creating a clean, balanced, and polished mix while staying true to your original sound and creative vision. Q: What files do you need from me? A: I typically need your vocal and instrumental stems or the individual tracks from your session. I’ll provide specific instructions after you place your order. Q: Can you mix different genres? A: Absolutely. I primarily work with Hip-Hop, Trap, and R&B, but I’m open to working with different styles and sounds. Q: Can you make my vocals sound better? A: Yes. I can edit, clean up, tune when needed, and process vocals to improve clarity, presence, and overall impact. Q: Do you offer revisions? A: Yes. Revisions are available based on the package you select. My goal is to make sure the final product meets your expectations. Q: Can you master my song after mixing it? A: Yes. I offer both mixing and mastering services and can take your track from raw recordings to a polished, release-ready master.

  17. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  18. A: The biggest misconception is that mixing and mastering are simply about making a song louder. In reality, they’re about creating balance, clarity, depth, and impact while preserving the artist’s vision. I feel that A great engineer isn’t just turning knobs they’re making creative and technical decisions that help the entire record sound its best.

  19. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  20. A: I ask clients about their goals for the project, the sound they’re looking for, and what they want the finished record to feel like. I also ask for reference tracks, information about their recording setup, and any specific vocals or instruments they want emphasized. Most importantly, I want to understand the artist’s vision so I can make creative decisions that complement their sound.

  21. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  22. A: My advice is to choose an engineer who understands your vision and takes the time to listen to what you want from your music. Look for someone with not just experience, but attention to detail, and a strong understanding of your genre. I also recommend providing clear references, notes, and expectations upfront so the engineer can deliver a mix that matches your sound while bringing their own professional expertise to the record.

  23. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  24. A: If I could take five pieces of gear to a desert island, I’d bring a Zoom recorder, high-quality microphone, studio headphones, portable hard drive, and power station. These five essentials would allow me to capture sounds, record ideas, monitor audio, store my projects, and keep my equipment powered while working in a remote environment.

  25. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  26. A: My career in music started as an independent Hip-Hop artist, where I gained firsthand experience writing, recording, performing, promoting, and developing my own music. Being an artist taught me the creative process from the inside and gave me a deeper understanding of the challenges artists face when bringing their music to life. In 2019, I founded KTG Music Group and began developing my career as a Recording Engineer. Over time, I expanded my skills into Recording, Mixing, and Mastering Engineering, allowing me to work across the entire audio production process. I earned my Associate degree in Audio Production from Full Sail University, graduating as Salutatorian of my class. I later expanded into artist development and A&R through my work at Ocean Five as a Senior A&R, where I identify talent, evaluate music, and help develop artists. I also gained industry experience through an internship with Streetz 94.5 Radio Station, where I further developed my understanding of professional audio, and broadcast production as well as the fast-paced music environment. My journey as an artist, engineer, entrepreneur, and A&R professional has given me a well-rounded perspective on both the creative and business sides of the music industry.

  27. Q: How would you describe your style?

  28. A: I focus on creating balanced mixes with clear vocals, impactful drums, or percussion with a polished overall sound while keeping the artist’s original style and vision intact.

  29. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  30. A: I would love to work with Drake because of his versatility, attention to detail, and ability to blend Hip-Hop and R&B into a unique sound. Working with him would give me the opportunity to contribute to a high-level project while learning from an artist who consistently pushes his sound and connects with a global audience.

  31. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  32. A: Always aim for proper recording levels. Avoid recording too loud and clipping your signal. Leaving enough headroom while recording gives you cleaner audio and more flexibility when mixing, helping your vocals and instruments sound clearer and more professional.

  33. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  34. A: I primarily work with Hip-Hop, Trap, R&B, and other urban music styles. I enjoy working with artists who want a modern, clean, and impactful sound while maintaining their unique style and identity.

  35. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  36. A: My strongest skill is bringing clarity and balance to a song. I have a strong ear for vocals, levels, and overall song dynamics, allowing me to turn raw recordings into a clean, polished mix while keeping the artist’s sound and creative vision intact.

  37. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  38. A: I bring a clean, balanced, and polished sound while keeping the artist’s original vision at the center. I focus on making vocals clear and impactful, creating space between the different elements, enhancing the energy of the track, and giving the song a professional finish that translates well across different speakers and streaming platforms.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My studio setup is focused on producing clean, professional-quality recordings and mixes. I use a Mac Book Air, I work with Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Ableton, Adobe Audition, and Studio One. I also have several different high quality mics, a Scarlett 18i20, A set of KRK Rokit 5 studio monitors with a 10 inch Sub, Sennheiser HD280 pro headphones, plenty professional mixing and production plugins, Akai Professional MPC Studio Console, as well as several various MIDI Boards. My setup allows me to record, edit, mix, produce and master music while maintaining an efficient workflow and attention to detail.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: “I’m inspired by producers and engineers like Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Pharrell Williams, Metro Boomin, Young Guru, and MixedByAli. I admire their ability to create unique sounds, bring out the best in artists, and turn creative ideas into polished, professional records.”

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I primarily provide professional music mixing, mastering, vocal editing, and audio production services. I work with artists to clean up vocals, balance instruments, enhance the overall sound, and deliver polished, release-ready tracks for streaming, radio, and other platforms.
