Interview with Gevin Niglas

  1. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  2. A: Talk it through, make sure everyone is understanding everything correctly.

  3. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  4. A: My laptop & cables, headphones, a generator with infinite fuel, keyboard, cooler.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: Started as a singer in a boyband. Picked up producing in the band, it broke up and have been producing for different artists and myself ever since.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: Minimalistic.

  9. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  10. A: The artist that would like to work with me.

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Take a break every once in a while.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: Anything goes but I find a way to package anything into pop.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: Given a background in musical theatre and being a trained singer myself, I am able to guide singers in a way most producers might find funny but gives insane results. I get enough takes of different stuff and I can make the singer very surprised.

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: Perspective, first and foremost. Then just add some spice.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: Get caffeine in some form, then get to it. Simple as that!

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: I work in a private studio complex with some sweet-sweet gear.

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: I am heavily inspired by the greats - MJ, Freddie, Jimi, as well as a lot of mainstream pop artists. Anything that has soul and catches my ear, really.

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: I usually work in sessions to build songs from scratch for local major label artists. A lot of recording and mixing as well. In the sessions I cowrite the songs with the artists and hone my skills in songwriting camps.
