Interview with Hipst3r
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Try not to start off a song in a box. I find that starting off with a genre or time limit in order to appeal to the masses tend to lead to music that sounds very similar to what's already out there
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly electronic of various genres, my favourite thing to do now is listen to different kinds of music and apply it to modern electronica
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'm pretty proud of my production and writing skills after doing it for about 5 years
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I'm also a design student, so thinking outside the box and coming up with unique sounds is almost second nature to me. My knowledge of my DAW and different ways I approach a song also helps with making creative music
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I tend to always be humming or thinking of a song, so my process begins with figuring out how to manifest it in some way, whether it's a rough 8 bar loop or just a voice recording. After that, it all just depends on making it sound as close as it does in my head, which is something I've been getting better at over time.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Ah, I have so many it's hard to choose. Off the top of my head, I'd say Jacob Collier, deadmau5, Skrillex because they're all trailblazers in their respective sounds - which is something I strive for.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mostly production for their song ideas & some film scoring
