Interview with Markus Reisinger
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am currently working on a Trap/EDM Intro for a Youtube Channel with 100k followers. It is a fun project!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I love both and for mixing i choose digital. In 2019 the quality of analog modeld plugins like the Slate ones (I love them!) is incredible and 99,9% of what the original would sound like. I also love to be able to easily recall a project.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: "How much is mixing?" is a very common question i get asked a lot. My answer: Depends on the size of your project. But generally I always find a solution that makes both, the artist and me happy.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: There is a funny saying that "a mixer is not a sewage plant. If you put shit in, shit will come out (mixed)".
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: In my opinion, one underatetd question is to ask clients what in particular they like about a reference mix or song. So i always ask that to make sure i really can see the clients vision.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: As mixing engineer i prefer mixes that on the one hand are more straight forward but also share a level of depth. Of course this also strongly depends on the genre of a song.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I do work in a professional homestudio. So what do I mean by that? I got professional studioacoustic treatment that was especially designed and optimized for the room that I am working in. (Like in a professional studio). Besides that I use a pair of Neumann KH 120 speakers with bass management for a really transparent reference sound.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am a big fan of Daft Punks work. They really did their "Homework". Also i love MUSE for their balls to always try out new stuff and sound. I think their latest album "Simulation Theory" is a masterpiece.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Often before mixing, artists reach out to me asking for some feedback first. I think they like my honesty and giving them additional ideas of how to make their production or song idea even better. During the process I do send them multiple mixes from different stages of the mixing process to ensure the mix is going the way they love.
