He was patient, communicative, and professional, which were qualities that I had been looking for in a mixing engineer. I also liked that he understood the sound that I was going for, which strengthened my confidence in his abilities.

He is very professional and goes the extra mile to ensure projects are finished within deadlines and up to the client's expectations, both as a session musician and audio engineer.

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Currently producing Night Seasons debut EP. Engineering and mixing with Apolloy Sway. Songwriting with a few diferent songwriters

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: That we willl achieve their musical.

  5. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  6. A: What has been the musically inspiration for their project. What their goals are with the sound of their music. Time table to complete the project.

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Find someone that has worked on music that excites you.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Don't focus on individual parts on their own, instead listen to how it works with a song as a whole. This works on both music production and mixing. The cohesiveness of all the musical elements kicking together will make a song shine.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: The ability to get the best out of the artist or song. With producing I get the best performance from an artist and mixing is highlighting the strengths of the song.

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: My first step would be to listen down to what the artist has sent me. Most of the time its a rough demo they have made on their own. From there I like to talk to them about the goals for the sound and feel of the project. Then I can choose the right tools to achieve the vision of the artist. That could be synths, effects, compressors. Next I want to get to the heart of the song. Be it if I'm mixing, engineering, or producing. Is there a driving bass line, incredible vocal melody, hard hitting groove? From there I'll see what needs to be added or subtracted. Be it with compression, performnace of the part, recording technique. Once I get the foundation of the song, then I move on to building the rest of the song.

  16. A: Both. Everything has its own flavor. It all depens on the song. I use what fits best for the music.

  18. A: Being able to work in music.

  19. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  22. A: That the software and plugins do all the work.

  25. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  26. A: I started in music as a kid playing with bands. During college I became serious with my band and decided to learn more about the production side. I bough recording equiment and it grew from there. In 2010 I started working for a composing house in Santa Monica. There I was support for the music library where I would mix over 200 tracks and help composers. During my time there I learned all about midi and sample libraries. After spending three years there I moved on to work in commerical reocording studios in the Los Agneles area. Those studios included Henson Recording Studios, Kingsize Soundlabs, Fairfax recordings. There I was exposed to top tier artist and engineers including Coldplay, Neal Diamond, Madonna, Justin Bieber, Spike Stent, Brendan O'Brien. Since November 2014 I've been independent with my own studio in Santa Monica, CA.

  27. Q: How would you describe your style?

  28. A: It's a blend of modern hi-fi clarity with a emphasis of classic groove and feel.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: I am most active in indie, alternative, electronic, and rock music for producing. When producing I tend to do all engineering and mixing. I also work on a healthy amount of hip hop and r n b. Which I engineer and mix/master.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: Listening. I've found that in my years of working in music that listening to the song and the artist is the most important part.

  33. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  34. A: Pharrell. His production and songwriting is incredible. I'm a huge fan of this arrangements and orchestration of his music. It's all very tasteful and done to make his songs timeless.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: The heart of my studio is the Antelope Orion. For mixing and engineering I work out of Pro Tools HD and for song writing I use Logic Pro X. I monitor through Yamaha NS10s with a KRK Sub, Avantone Mixcubes, and Dynaudio BM15A. For mixing I use my Disstressor, C1, dbx 160 xt, Shadhow Hills Vandergraph, and Avedis E27. Plugins I lean heavy on Universal Audio for their compressors, eqs, and harmonic saturation. For vintage sounding reverbs and delays I use UA as well. More modern sounds I do all the Soundtoys/iZotope/Waves/Vahalla plugins. When tracking I have a few different flavors with BAE 1073/UA 610/Focusrite ISA Two.

  38. A: Dan Wilson, Diplo, Skrillex, DJ Mustard, Timbaland, Andrew Scheps, Paul Epworth, Spike Stent, Rich Costy, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Drake, Kanye West, FKA Twigs, James Blake, Alex Da Kid, Schoolboy Q, Childish Gambino

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: I produce, eningeer, and mix for a majority of my clientele. I work with a lot of duo or solo artists who need someone to help them complete their musical vision.
