This is my second track with Joey.
Absolute pleasure to work with once again. Adds so much to the song. Feeling and vibe spot on and could not be happier with the take provided.
Very thoughtful playing with lovely melodic runs in suitable places that add to the song instead of being a distraction to the focus that can so often happen.
Great to communicate with and will take the time to get the little details right that we all know add so much to the finished song. Thanks dude.

Super lovely guy and equally as good a bassist.
Very easy to work with. Been having a lot of health problems over the last year that have been very limiting and he was alway super kind and patient with me while we got everything together and got an awesome bass track. Song sounds awesome. Very happy and he'll be on more tracks of this project for sure. Thanks Joey. Keep doing what you're doing.Song was Alt Rock Incubus/Soundgarden vibe to give you all a reference.

Joey is an incredible bassist and a joy to work with. Communication was very clear and friendly & he really understood the song/what I was looking for right off the bat. He is honest, helpful, flexible, and just so easy to work with. No egos, no impatience–just a genuine excitement for the project and a perfect fit all around. Joey will make whatever you're working on sound even better, highly recommend!
Interview with Joey Howard
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I run Pro Tools with apogee conversion, a Noble Bass Pre Amp through an API 512c and some other 500 series compressors etc. Lot's of basses, lots of synths.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started playing bass a the age of 11 but I did not start playing professionally until I was 26 (with Paramore). From 2010 - 2016 I was guitar teching for bands like Paramore, Kings of Leon, Fall Out Boy, John Mellencamp, Childish Gambino, etc... I was close friends with Paramore when they needed a new bassist. They asked me to try out and so I did! I am forever thankful for the opportunity they gave me. I think because I was in the industry and close to the artists it gave me a level of visibility that allowed me to be called upon in time of need. They already knew me and they knew that I was a good fit on tour. That eventually lead to my involvement in the writing and making of Hayley's "Petals For Armor".
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: 1. My Antigua P Bass 2. My Ampeg b15 3. My Rickenbacker 4003 4. My Juno JU-06A 5. Korg Volca Beats
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Funky, Groovy, Sexy
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: The 1975 - I love their music and I think it would be really fun to play on bass. Also, Anderson .Paak - funky bass lines and I can't get enough of his grooves.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: don't get too in your head! Take breaks, get perspective and come back fresh.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: all kinds! I would say indie pop is the most abundant work that I get but I am always down to play on whatever comes my way.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: In the pocket feel, unique melodies, a willingness to experiment and find exactly what the song needs, overall support of the vocal melody, and amazing tone :)
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I typically find the bass line of a song and track that in its most basic form. Then, I like to record a few passes that feature more fills and frills, giving the producer some options.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Pino Palladino (duh), Janet Jackson, Earth Wind & Fire, Sade, Zapp, and all of the emo / rock music I listened to growing up. Oh and don't forget all of the gospel music I played in church as a kid.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Bass tracking and Songwriting
