Interview with Jamie Andrew
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Heyzeus...Jesus or Zeus?
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Busked around the world for 2 years in 2012.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Etheric Rock, poppin' on your tongue
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Jeff Buckley
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Alt pop, rock, singer/songwriter, folk, grunge - a bit of everything!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Energy, good vibes, creativity, passion, and a distinct vocal tone.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I am super creative, very devoted, and always give each project or song I'm working on, my all.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I grew up on Nirvana but love all kinds of music from Indian Classical, to Jeff Buckley to Miley Cyrus to Moby and everything in between!
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I guess my new release coming out very soon called Warm Milk. With the after effects of the pandemic still lingering, I chose not to fork out for a mixing engineer, and instead, did everything myself apart from the master.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: New music always.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Andres Mayo is a top Mastering engineer, who I've worked with on a few releases.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Because.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will do my absolute best to help your song sound absolutely kick ass.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Singing is such an amazing release for me.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I'll come back to this one!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is your vision for this project?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Without blowing my own trumpet, there aren't many vocalists out there like me, so I will do my best for you =)
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My tangle wood acoustic, a cajon, a 3 guitar picks because I always lose them!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more. But sometimes you need more!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Singing and Songwriting.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a small but totally self catering professional music studio from my home on the Scottish Borders. My got to DAW is Logic Pro X, I use an Apollo Twin audio interface, but also use the Focsurite 2i2, and even my trusty Behringer UMC404HD! I have a gorgeously beaten fender Strat, a Gibson J45 although I normally always record with my Tanglewood acoustic! To lay down my vocals, I use a Shure SM7B; I mean, Michael Jackson used them after all!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Laying down some killer lead rock vocals. Songwriting and producing a super cool rock/grunge/pop track.
