Cirkular on SoundBetter

Cirkular is a top-grade music production studio, a fresh record label and a slick artist management company - all from a cosy little house right in the center of Cluj. From elaborate synth patches to exquisite recording we do it all for our clients and their projects - be it a hot single from an awesome new band or an international TV commercial.

We have all the right hardware, software and ears to properly record, edit, mix and master your future single. We also produce and compose music for movies and commercials - sometimes for games too. We’ve even ventured into the vast field of sound design. Everything custom-made, straightforward and top-notch.

Established in 2017, the Cirkular music production studio was designed as a creative space that enables us to take on anything from classical music recording to electronic music or the loudest rock banger with ease. We've put a lot of thought & love into the design of our studio and the gear selection - classic analog synthesizers, high-end microphones and preamplifiers along with timeless instruments and amplifiers are at the heart of our workflow.

Working with Cirkular has been a great experience! They have a great knowledge of their synth and analog equipment and can really help add depth/creativity to your project. I'll definitely be working with them again in the future.

After many years of working with different producers and sound engineers, I have finally found the right match for me and I couldn't be happier! The quality of work is top notch but the guys were super patient with me all along, something that I find pretty rare unfortunately. It wasn't a job, it was a great collaboration!

Working with Andrei Bobiș (sound engineer) was a great experience. Professionalism, patience, creativity, hard work and a pleasant personality - just a few of his attributes I really appreciate. The results of our collaboration are top-notch cello, acoustic guitar and bass guitar tracks. Great sound & home-like environment/feeling - this is Cirkular. Thank you!

You can tell these guys have a great amount of dedication & involvement in sound & music. The knowledge, the concepts & the vision they present through their projects with good communication and patience are inspiring. I've had one of my EP's mixed and mastered by Andrei at Cirkular, for which he used top equipment with slick skills. I also had the pleasure to be a part of the sound design workshop that Dan and Andrei organized, where I've learned amazing techniques in sound. I highly recommend their studio and I trust that any project that's being produced at Cirkular will be an amazing one.

Great people, skills and service. Cirkular is THE place to be if you want to produce/record music. Production quality is top notch, I wold describe them as patient, dedicated and all around very good at what they do. We recorded an EP there, I can't say enough about how talented Andrei is at producing and what a good ear he has. The gear there is also pretty cool, lots of meaty analogue stuff, tasty amps and the possibility to record drums makes perfect for bands as well. I personally feel like I learned a lot about music, gained a whole new perspective and approach.

If you are in Romania this is the place to record your music and to experiment with sound. I met Dan and Andrei in 2019, very warm-hearted and enthusiastic guys, a pleasure to work with. Cirkular is a great facility with a few separate production rooms and lots of nice instruments and sound toys, just right to spice up your production. I like the creative atmosphere very much. Ideas just float there without restrictions. You'll experience it on your own. I can highly recommend the team and space and will come back asap!

We had a great experience working on our song with Cirkular. Andrei is a very open-minded and empathetic producer, who brought our song to its full potential by creating a balance between our ideas and his input. He is very well anchored into the present music industry and understood our search for a modern sound. They supported us with state-of-the-art gear, encouraged any crazy musical experiment we might have had and came up with nice alternative recording spaces. All in all, it was one of the best experiences I've had in a recording studio, so I highly recommend them.

I had a great experience recording my band's first song at Cirkular ( ex:hale - Breathe) and soon we will continue working with them. Andrei, with whom we’ve worked closely, gave us all his attention from the beginning till the end. He’s an open person, easy to communicate with, he is very creative, hard-working and sooo patient - I really appreciate that, because, in the end, you don’t want to be rushed into anything. The result? It was everything we’ve wished for. I highly recommend going with Cirkular at least once!

Cirkular is by far the best studio I’ve had the pleasure of recording at. Andrei (the engineer) and Dan (the day to day guy) are great, honest guys who really work hard to give you the result your looking for. That’s so important because if you’re a good sound engineer but a bad people person, you may not provide the level of attention to each individual that walks in. They provide a chill, fun environment where creativity can really flow. I always recommend Cirkular to everyone. Andrei REALLY knows his stuff, and even goes above and beyond to help you shape your ideas.

We loved working with Cirkular and definitely recommend them! The final song was beautiful and the process itself was very smooth, with some back-and-forth edits which really show what it means to be listened to. And not only that, we trust their artistic sensibilities too, they are able to give new insights and adapt creatively to any story one might wish to tell.

after working with many producers and sound engineers with not the best results, I had the most wonderful experience with Cirkular. They were super reasonable and very patient with me, I never felt that I'm asking too much. Technically also, I can say that I have found the sound and quality I was looking for in the last 10 years

Interview with Cirkular

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Kirmaier's debut LP, an eight song album reminiscent of Suicide, Efterklang and LCD.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Obviously both because we couldn't fit a tape machine through the door.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: A strong sense of structure, excellent arranging skills & fresh, curious ears. I think these are paramount to helping artists and clients find whatever it is they are looking for.

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: A multi-track recorder, an SM57, the Prophet 6 synthesizer, one electric guitar and one electric bass guitar - you don't need much more to make amazing records. Hopefully, we can find something on the island to fashion a cowbell from.

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I started my first band at 13 and have been working with music ever since, be it in a band, behind the desk at shows or in the studio. Music turned into a career after earning a music production bachelor's degree from Berklee.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: When it comes to working with bands we mostly work with indie, electronic music, rock, jazz and folk. However, we have quite a strong background in working for media projects such as TV commercials, where we adapted to the client's references and requests, in whatever genre they fell.

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: We carefully support clients at every stage of the production process: from the first consultation to the final music product. Everything custom-made, straightforward and top-notch.All of our projects follow a similar trajectory - analysis, scheduling, pre-production, production and delivery, being always careful to respect & follow the client's vision.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: The Cirkular studio is a 2-room facility. The control room is equipped with a 16 channel recording setup centred around 8 channels of API 3124V preamplifiers and 8 channels of Universal Audio Twin-Finity 4-710D preamplifiers. This is also the home of our classic synthesizers like the Sequential Prophet 6, the ARP Odyssey or the Moog Sub Phatty, along with sequencers and drum machines. A powerful converter, the Antelope Orion32+ takes the signals to Pro Tools. Of course, everything is completed by some nice outboard gear and comprehensive monitoring. Our second room is dedicated to live recording of acoustic instruments. We have 2 drum kits, one of which is the classic Yamaha Recording Custom, an Ampeg V4-B bass amplifier and a Fender Deluxe Reverb 68' guitar amplifier. Our selection of microphones follows that of many classic studios with mics like the Neumann TLM 193, the Sennheiser MD-441U, Sennheiser MD-421's, SM57's, the D12 or the AKG C414's.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: Producing emerging bands and helping them define their artistic vision is our #1 activity right now. It is also the activity closest to our heart. Second to that is working on media projects - Games, TV commercials or film.

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: The biggest names on the list regarding music production are Prince and James Murphy (of LCD Soundsystem) . When it comes to musicians the list is a long one - Talking Heads, ESG, Human League, Arcade Fire, Bowie, St. Vincent quickly come to mind, but I could keep adding names for a quite a while.
