Q: What are you working on at the moment?

A: I am working on releasing my first EP under my artist name, eress!

Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A: 1. Will you write lyrics and sing vocals for free? Answer: That depends; you can always ask! 2. Will you sing my pre-written lyrics? Answer: In short, no. No set of lyrics is perfect, and being a music producer means you need to be open to feedback. If a producer isn't interested in my feedback on the lyrics they've written, I have no interest in singing them. I always ask if the client is open to revisions, and if they aren't, I usually won't sing their lyrics.

Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

A: Do you have lyrics and/or vocal melody already written? If so, are you okay with revisions? Is there a particular theme you envision for this track? Do you have a deadline for this track? What is your budget? What is your plan for royalties?

Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

A: The biggest misconception is that I'm in this for money. I'm not. I'm working on my portfolio and building my network, and a side perk of that is the occasional paid gig. If I was all about finances, I would have turned down many projects that ended up being very successful. It's about quality and quantity.

Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

A: Alan Walker. My voice fits his sound perfectly, so I'd love to write and sing for him. I'd want to see how he works in the studio and get his tips for my own music!

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

A: EDM, chill, future bass, melodic dubstep, future house. I work in a wide range of EDM sub-genres. I've also recently started working in hip-hop!

Q: What do you bring to a song?

A: Creativity, originality, and the ability to dance around a cliché without being cliché. With over 10 years of experience writing lyrics and a degree in English language and literature, I have an eye for eloquence.

Q: What's your typical work process?

A: Typically, a client will send me a finished or near-finished track that needs vocals. I'll give the client a time estimate for both starting and finishing the project. Once I get started, I'll send over a short demo to show the client my idea for both lyrics and vocals. When the client gives me the "thumbs-up," I finish the project over the next 2-8 days with updates every couple of days or so. I always ask questions and check in!

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

A: I record on a RØDE NT1-A condenser microphone into Logic Pro X. Along with other professional equipment like a Novation Launchkey MIDI keyboard, studio speakers and headphones, and my own expertise, I can make clear and beautiful music from my home studio.

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

A: Artists like Jonas Blue, Jim Yosef, TheFatRat, and Alan Walker are my biggest inspirations when it comes to vocals and my own compositions. I write a lot of lyrics that fit the mainstream EDM sphere, and I like to add a bit of complexity that makes people think.

Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

A: I typically write lyrics and record vocals for each client. I create all of the melodies, harmonies, and ad libs myself; I can work with pre-written melodies at the client's request.
