MI born OH based BJSR creates sounds and stories that strike a chord in more ways than one. The modern troubadour utilizes his ‘axe and vox' to emit emotional highs and lows matched only by the vocal peaks and subtextual depths of his musical mindset. Trying to guess his next release is like predicting the weather and always a delightful surprise.
Words can’t begin to express what it feels like to fall in and out of love for the first time. Luckily, BJSR proprietor Benjamin J S Rivet uses his vocal chords and six strings to convey an enlightened take on the heaviness of growing up “a lover” in a fast-paced world. But his debut LP is more than your traditional singer/songwriter brooding on about adulthood. It encompasses Midwestern ingenuity and entrepreneurial passion into an artful musical exposé. Blending traditionally simplistic folk writing with lush modern production, each track touches on topics and leans into genres that are familiar yet surprising. Imagine if Paul Simon had a laptop in Africa, and if Neil Young had a DSLR on the road? What if James Taylor had voice memos in the woods? What if those classic American folk archetypes were connected to the world that we live in today? BJSR gives us a glimpse of what that might look like, and an opportunity to be saved by “the creative” inside all of us.
