I work as a singer songwriter (Mereo) and as a producer and mixing engineer. I've worked on Alternative pop, Electronic Pop, R&B, Singer Songwriter and theatre music. A lot of my time is spent working on my own music as Mereo. I love producing and mixing tracks for other artists too. So let's work together !
My studio is set up to be very versatile. I can record vocals, synthesizer, guitar, programmed drums, piano, but most importantly, I can mix/master your track. I mix with a hybrid setup. When I need a certain color I can use my analogue outboard gear, and I have all the plug-ins to make surgical mixing decisions too. With my Lynx converter and my PMC speakers I have a crystal clear reference which will help me get the most out of your music.
I have experience in (alternative) pop music but also in composing/mixing for live theatre. In theatre composing the music can vary from classical to hip hop so I know my way around a lot of genres. I will do everything I need to help your recording sound as good as it potentially can. If it means helping out in the production I'm very happy to do so but if it means to just do the mix I'm perfectly happy doing that as well. Sometimes it's really good to have some fresh ears to listen to the production in the final stages. I'm all about respecting the artists vision though, and will work extensively on improving that vision and not taking away from it.
I'm looking forward to working together. Send me a message and let's see how I can help.

Endorse Rens BlonkLoved working with Rens - extremely speedy and with a great ear for detail. Very easy to communicate with and accommodating in making multiple versions of tracks (for a theater production, in this case). The quick turnaround and his patience and insight were incredibly valuable - would definitely recommend!
Rens has great ears and is the perfect person to bring your ideas to the next level. Whether it’s in the production phase or to provide the final touch in the mastering phase. It’s always a pleasure to work with him. His mixing skills are extraordinary and he has the capability to highlight the right details in a sea of sound.
Highly recommend
Interview with Rens Blonk
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That I will make your track sound even better. It sounds very basic but that’s what you want from a mixing/mastering engineer
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Get your track as far as you can on your own. Always check if you are keeping the essence of the track that you liked in the first place. But make sure the mixer can hear very well what your intentions are. And please send me a dry vocal as well as a processed one (if you have it)
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Pharrell. I think I can learn a lot from him
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Create, don’t think too much about it. The best ideas come out of nowhere
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: It varies a lot. I feel most at home in the pop/electronic/r&b world. But I love working on many different styles. My method applies to all of the ‘popular’ music genres I would say. Please give me a jazz record to work on, I won’t let you down ;)
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My musicality. I got into music because I loved the feeling my favorite records gave me. When I started making my own music I wanted to know everything that was going into making a record. All the technical aspects. But music is feeling. That’s why it’s good to have fun while making music. Get out of your head and create something that’s yours
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I would say the key word is depth. I see music creation in different stages. When I mix a track I get the chance to place all the elements in the right way. This is something the producer has hopefully already thought about in the production stage. A producer produces and a mixer mixes. I know that sounds a bit ridiculous and obvious. But it’s called mixing for a reason. You want elements to blend and groove together. This is sometimes very subtle. I know I can improve the feel of a track.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I have developed a mixing technique that allows me to make quick and effective decisions. But the first thing I do is listen. Listen to what is already there and how I can enhance that towards a finished product. As a producer myself I know how far you have to go to make a song work even before the mix. So off course I can fill in the blanks when needed but I mostly focus on what the artist and the producer where after. I know I can make whatever works sound even better and that’s a great feeling.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio Is very suitable for critical listening. It’s very important to me to have a balance between a creative space and a ‘neutral’ listening space. I know I can rely on my ears to make the work sound better in this room and to make it translate to any other setup.
