Interview with Jaimeson Durr
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I mostly work on rock, pop, indy rock and americana
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill I believe is to make mixes shine with just about what ever I'm given and bring out the emotion of the song.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I like to bring the maximum amount of energy and emotion out of a song. To make sure there is a vibe and that its compelling for everyone to love and want to listen to over and over.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: For mixing, once I get the files for the song, I first listen to the rough mix. I then familiarize myself with all of the tracks. Then I start to sculpt the sound based on what notes I get from the artist. Once I feel the mix has all the energy and is conveying the emotion, I send that mix to the artist and we have a conversation on what they would like to change to make it its best.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have two studios that I work out of. My studio at Hyde St. Studios called, Wally's Hyde Out has lots of outboard preamps and compressors for recording and a large 24 channel control surface. My other studio is my production studio. I do most of my mixing here and mix all digital so it makes recall mixes really fast.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: The musicians that inspire me would be some of the musicians that I have worked with including Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Chad Smit and Jason Bonham. Other music production professionals that inspire me would be John Cuniberti, Mike Fraser and Mark Needham.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common work I do is mixing. I also do a lot of recording and producing at my studio in the legendary studio, Hyde St. Studios in San Francisco called Wally's Hydeout.
