Interview with Pavel Daniels

Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Karybdis - In The Shadow Of Paradise album. That was my very first paying client. Guys in the past worked with legends like Mark Lewis, Russ Russell and I managed to convince them with my skills to come and do their next album with me. I tracked, edited, produced and mixed it all. Still to this day this is one of my favourite sounding records that I worked on.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Does it really matter anymore? It's not the type of tools that you're using that's important, it's how you use them.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is your band/artist history? If you worked with other engineers, why are you looking for someone else right now? What is your song/ep/album vision? What inspires you? Have you got a release strategy? All these questions are important to me as I am driven by results and want my artists to succeed in their career.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started out doing my first demos in 2012 while playing in bands and over the years my interest in producing high quality records just kept on growing. Now I've been doing this professionally for over 5 years.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Artists that want their songs to hit hard and sound massive. There's no better feeling than artist giving you a stank face after listening to your mix :)
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: You don't need all that fancy gear. First you need to practice a lot.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on a wide variety of alternative music: Melodic death metal, metalcore, hardcore, melodic hardcore, stadium rock, pop rock, indie rock.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: A fresh approach that will serve the song and elevate artists vision to the next level.
