My friend Brian Iele in Argentina has been a trusted music contact for me since 2009 when he brought me to Buenos Aires for the first time. Since then (8 more trips to that fine city!) He has organized production masterclasses for me, live shows, Dj sets, lectures and many recording jobs.

He is truly a well educated all around audio engineer

Interview with Brian iele (SCS Mastering)

Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
The one I'm doing right now. Always think is better than the last one. I'm mixing a really good Afro jazz band from the very south of the world. @Dingungu
What are you working on at the moment?
Just mastered an ep for afroamerican singer Keba Williams. Well, many projects every week.
Analog or digital and why?
Anything that sounds "right" for the song. Both most of the times.
What do you like most about your job?
The fact that it doesn't feel like working.
What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
That miracles are included with the job.
What questions do you ask prospective clients?
For mastering clients we ask for mixes before 100% completion so we can suggest technical changes that could help the final process.
If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
My monitoring system. A console. My ears. A chair. A bottle of wine.
How would you describe your style?
Purist. Hi fi but with a touch of dirtiness when it's needed.
What do you bring to a song?
judgement to understand what it needs.
What's your strongest skill?
Judgement when mastering. When mixing, I prefer my Job to speak for itself.
Tell us about your studio setup.
Hibryd Studio. Digital and Analog. Highly focused on quality equipment.
What's your 'promise' to your clients?
When they are satisfied i'd try to make it even better.
What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
Can I be present at the mastering session? Yes sure you can.
What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
Be sure to give the engineer all the input you can about your proyect and expectations
What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
Coffee Boy, Assitant, Technician, Recording Engineer, Mixing Engineer, Masterin Engineer. All started long ago. Like almost 20 years ago.
Can you share one music production tip?
Don't overthink it.
What type of music do you usually work on?
Rock, Indie, Pop, Jazz, Electronic
What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
Many, in different ways. What inspires me the most, is authenticity.
Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
