Interview with Giuseppe Seccia
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I worked as an arranger and producer on albums with Ghemon. One of the songs from these albums made it to the Sanremo Festival, and I’m very proud of that.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently producing tracks with some local artists.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: My associate and I brought our business on SoundBetter, we do work as producers and beatmakers: https://soundbetter.com/profiles/256684-koncrete-productions
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: In my opinion, both approaches have their strengths and weaknesses.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Full support, high-quality work, and empathy.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That feeling when everything comes together and you hear the final result of the production and recording—that’s pure emotion.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Q: I need an acoustic version of a song. Can you record the piano? A: Absolutely! I can arrange the song for a piano and vocal version. Q: I need keyboard arrangements for my track. Can you do that? A: Let’s do it! I’m also a producer, and I’d be happy to help you take your song to the next level.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Sometimes, a real piano track doesn't resonate as well as a digitally programmed one—and that always feels a bit strange to me.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I work on many different things, but my top priority is always to be in tune with what the client wants, so they’re fully satisfied with the result.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Check out my profile. If what I do inspires you, get in touch and let’s talk about your project!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A laptop, a small keyboard, and a pair of headphones—that's all you need!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started studying classical piano at the age of six. I completed my studies both at the conservatory and at the CPM Music Institute in Milan (where I currently teach). Over the past few years, I’ve performed on national and international tours. I now split my time between teaching, performing, and producing.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Refined and elegant.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I've worked with several R'n'B artists in Italy, especially with Ghemon. One day, I’d love to collaborate with artists from the international Soul scene.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Listening and allowing the emotions of the moment to guide you in the right direction.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work within the R'n'B, Soul, NuSoul, Hip Hop, and Pop genres.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is definitely working on harmonic progressions to fit a melody, and finding the right sound and tone to use.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I try to follow the emotional flow of the song, so that what I record feels like the right thing to do—without overdoing it or adding parts that feel out of context.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually receive a demo audio or a backing track from the client to record my parts. I always ask the client for references so I can be as accurate as possible in delivering what they want. Once everything is defined, I send a preview of the work. If the client requests any revisions, I'm happy to make them. However, if the client has a clear idea of what they want to achieve, revisions are usually minimal.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a dedicated studio room at home, with an upright piano and several master keyboards that I use to record through professional plugins. I record using Logic Pro, along with an audio interface and professional monitors.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m mainly inspired by international productions and the musicians who work in the R'n'B and Soul scene. I really enjoy the style of piano playing that has emerged in recent years in these kinds of productions.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common type of work I do is recording piano and keyboard tracks for original songs, or recreating one or more keyboard parts for a backing track of a song. Other times, I'm asked to do the pre-production of a complete original track.
