Interview with Vanessa 'NETTIE' Wood

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: A girl group out of Philadelphia called Good Girl https://www.instagram.com/wearegoodgirl/ I worked with them since they started, as pretty much anything they may have needed (music production, songwriting, background vocals, arrangements, recording, visuals, a place to rehearse, BTS footage, a friend to talk to, etc.) They are the first artist I've ever worked with whom I've gotten to see the manifestation of my hard work. They are currently signed to a very big label.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Cataloging, Syncing, and project placements

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Ky (jawnwitdagreenhair) https://soundbetter.com/profiles/182458-jawnwitdagreenhair

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital, however, I have much much respect for analog. But I'm used to working digitally more than analog. That is all.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Being Creative and limitless.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: That I will do whatever the client wants beyond the client's ability and capability.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: What specifically, do you want to do?

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Please be clear and sure about what you want. Please show the same courtesy, understanding, and consideration as I will show you.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: My laptop, My good, flat, Headphones, My 5 TB hard drive, USB mic. And you may not count this as gear, but in some way it is, but my cell phone.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: My goal is to surpass Missy Elliot in creativity, achievements and even respect in the entertainment industry. She is one of the standards. I've been creative since I was 2, but this committed musical journey started when I was 12.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: Classically Modern. I understand music at all times.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: I'd like to work with Pharrell Williams. I feel like I'd get so much more out of my experience with him than just creating with him.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Don't overthink, because it can cause you to overdo, and don't force anything. Your best work comes organically.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: Mostly urban music, but I like to be versatile, so I've created many different types of music because it was required.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: Full Music production. (Puting an ENTIRE song together)

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: Quality, clarity, and most of all, feeling and effectiveness.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: Getting to know my clients for a more comfy and creative atmosphere to get the best out of them for the best, quality work.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: I'm usually asked to engineer, or for vocal production, and produce music for the bulk of my clients. Many people have ideas and even songs that have not yet been recorded, or have no music or haven't become full songs.
