I am a mixing engineer, music composer, producer & sound designer working remotly from my studio in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
For more than 15 years I've been mixing and producing music covering a wide spectrum of genres, including jazz bands, rock groups, folk singers, pop stars and electronic music projects.
I also work as a music composer and sound designer for animation, motion design, film and advertising. I have experience working with brands such as Nike, Hulu, Netflix and MTV.
Being a composer and producer gives me a great array of tools and resources to understand the vision of each client in each song and bring it to its highest form.

Interview with Mariano Méndez
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on indie rock/pop stuff.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Work starts chatting with the clients, asking for their needs and vision regarding the song or project. Then I spent all the time needed just hearing to the music materials, trying to make a connection with the emotions and feelings that the artist is trying to communicate. I then proceed to set up the mixing session in my DAW, so that later on I can just concentrate on the music as much as I can.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: In the box studio, set up in an acoustically treated room at home, set up at home, which is where I feel most comfortable to work at any time. Professional monitor system + headphones, full load of top-notch audio plugins.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Salvador Rivera's "Existen o no existen?". I'm proud of the result we got, cause of the music and the audio. I produced, recorded and mixed, as well as being the drummer.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: A new record.

A: I ask for musical references of the project and try to understand their artistic needs.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been playing drums and guitar since I was 10. I started producing and mixing electronic music at home, arround 2005, and from then on never really stopped. I switch to rock/pop and acoustic music as I grew older, playing drums, gutiar, composing, producing, recording and mixing. I've been releasing music whit my band Salvador Rivera since 2012. And I co-founded and directed Puerto Music, a creative audio content studio that focused on the development of musical ideas for audiovisual projects, until 2022. We made bespoke music and sound design for film, advertising and motion graphics for Nike, ONU, Hulu and MTV, teaming up with multi-award-winning animation studio Rudo Company.

A: I'd love to work with Bjork, to whitness her creative process.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Always try to capture the listener's attention by generating something unexpected in their ears, throughout the piece.

A: Discovering new artists!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I seek to highlight the musicality and beauty in each song I'm involved with. Being a musician and composer, I bring that input to the song

A: Mixing songs and records, and lately I've been more into song production and arrangment.
