My specialty is in making vocals "pop" in a mix by comping, tuning and processing with the best tools in the biz while maintaining the natural feel and sound of the artist.
I've been making music for more than 15 years and studied vocal production, mixing, and mastering at the Cre•8 Music Academy in partnership with Westlake Recording Studios (Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, etc.).
I got my start gigging and doing sessions on saxophone and percussion in the Pacific Northwest. In college, while studying music, I discovered my love for production. Hooked by the thrill of realizing the artistic vision of each song/album/project, I've been honing my craft as a producer ever since. I now produce and write in Los Angeles full-time mainly for sync related opportunities (but you might catch me performing live in a local fusion band too:).
My speciality is in vocal comping and tuning using Melodyne, AutoTune, VocAlign, and other industry standard tools. I'm proficient in both ProTools and Logic with working knowledge of Ableton as well.
Making a recording sound as good as it possibly can while staying true to the artistic intent of a song is my passion and I'd love to help on your next project!

Levi Downey

Worked with Levi's band on this one. Super high-quality recording made it easy to do my mastering work and bring out the best in the song. Levi's specific reference really help me nail the sound the band was aiming for.

Interview with Levi Downey
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Depends on the goal.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Working with creative, passionate, people to make something worth sharing with the world.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: How would describe the feeling you want the listener to have? What are a couple reference songs and why for each of them?
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is almost always more. Rather than adding something new for a specific feeling or vibe, try first taking something else away to accomplish the same goal.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Timbaland, Max Martin, Ian Kirkpatrick, Ricky Reed, Curtis Mayfield, Run The Jewels.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common work I do is working from an initial song idea and helping bring it from sketch/demo into a finished song. I also focus on vocal production and am happy to comp/tune and process vocals to make them feel polished and professional.
