Interview with Esther Recordings

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: Never process everything. Typically other instruments don't need effects processing at all.

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: I work on Pop, Rock, Indie, Electronic and Country extensively.

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: I think my arrangement skills are the strongest one because I always pay attention to the smallest detail and typically the smallest details are the ear candy of the song.

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: Regardless of the genre, I always bring my organic flavor to my songs, being a multi-instrumentalist. I typically use unconventional instruments and tweak them to the aesthetics of the song. Most of the time it works.

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: I typically sit down with the the artist and discuss about what their song's direction would be. We'll listen to pegs for inspiration and start songwriting from there. After the demo is done, we record the final vocals and work on the arrangement. If the artist is now satisfied with the arrangement, I will begin to mix the track, constantly exchanging feedback with the artist, then I go to mastering and final touches until we get to the final product.

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: Owl City fully inspired me to start diving into music production.

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: I do mostly producing, arranging, mixing and mastering the final product
