Interview with Michelle Pereira (Purr-Era)
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I released an artist project back in September 2018 titled "Piece of My Mind" and it's available everywhere you stream music! I'm the artist on it!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Hopefully tunning, comping and editing your vocals for your project! ;)
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Maddy Simmens for your songwriting and recording vocal needs!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital just because of the easy access and movability.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to return your project sounding the best it can possibly sound and make your vocals sing even better!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love hearing other people's music and what they are writing or vibing too!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Will you be my first customer? :(
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: "I'm a singer so I must not know how to record/tune my own vocals or build a track..." "insert roll-eye emoji here"
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Do you need all 3 services from me (Vocal Tuning, Comping, & Editing)? Or do you just need 1 or 2 of the 3 services I provide?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Google them! If they are not easily googleable, I would question their service! Also, listen to what they are claiming to help you with!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Assuming this island has electric power...my acoustic guitar, my apollo twin, my computer, an XLR, and an SM57.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been doing music since I was 10 years old! I took singing lessons, piano lessons, guitar lessons, took every music course in high school that was offered and then I eventually went to college to pursue my music education further! Now, I'm living in Nashville and trying to build my network within the Music Business!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: As an artist/writer, I would describe myself as a Soul/Pop/R&B style! I've got some of my own music on my website if you are interested!
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Sara Bareilles because I admire her authenticity and her songwriting! I would also love to work with Allen Stone because of his soulfulness and writing as well! Too many to choose from!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: I'm a fan of riding the chorus' to make them sound "bigger" in the final mix!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, R&B, Soul, & Country!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I would say singing is my strongest skill but I also write music and can build basic tracks!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I like to think I bring authenticity to a song and something that wasn't there before!
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I'm a kind of "go-with-the-flow" kind of person when it comes to creating and my work process.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have an Apollo Twin and mainly work with Logic nowadays for my personal music and track building needs.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm a big fan of Sara Bareilles, ADELE, H.E.R, Allen Stone, John Mayer...too many to name!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I'm a singer/songwriter first and foremost, but I also get hired to sing at bars, events and also tune, comp and edit vocals for my clients recording projects!
