Andrei Sora on SoundBetter

I'm a producer, audio engineer, and multi-instrumentalist based in London, UK. I specialize in pop and alternative music, particularly of the synth variety.

I'm a one-stop shop solution for all of those voice notes on your phone that are just begging to be made into full songs!

* Production - If those voice notes lead to a song that needs a full production, I can take that song idea and make it into a radio-ready track! (Mixing and mastering are included in all my productions, but I can, of course, provide the stems so you can do these processes externally, should you want to!)

* Mixing - If those voice notes have already led to a production that's just not hitting hard enough and isn't polished enough, I can take the stems and provide a clean, deep, and wide mix.

* Mastering - If all of the above processes are done but you just need that extra power, polish, and volume, then I can take your mix and master it so it competes on the market.

Would love to have a chat and discuss your project in more detail. Please drop a line using the contact button and let's start making music!

Andrei is extremely helpful + really easy to work with! He works fast, communicates well and I was very happy with the result. He brought great ideas to the table as well as having the skill to execute some of my own ideas. Thanks for all you help Andrei!

  2. Review by Daanish A.

Andrei is the perfect producer to collaborate with - brings loads of his own ideas to the mix while also keeping true to your original vision. He’s willing to work with you until you’re happy with the final product, instead of just giving you a set amount of iterations, which proves that he’s a real collaborator on your work, not just someone coming in and out! Looking forward to working on more tracks immediately, highly recommended

  3. Review by Daanish A.

Was a pleasure to work with Andrei - super patient in explaining anything from basic to advanced concepts, despite clearly being a musical genius! Not only does he have a firm grasp of the essentials of production, but is also a very creative collaborator - very much looking forward to working with him on projects in the future.

  4. Review by Nuno F.

Andrei is probably one of the most patient people I have worked with. Very professional, approachable, and always willing to take feedback on board to ensure I was happy with the final mix. I highly recommend Andrei to anyone in need of a producer/engineer.

  5. Review by Greta

Andrei was very easy to work with as he has a great attention to detail as a mix engineer. He helped my track shine and was very clear when communicating back and forth. Would definitely recommend, I look forward to hopefully working with him again in the future.

  6. Review by Andrei E.

As it's my very first time collaborating with Andrei and commissioning him with a project that will reflect my vocal and musical abilities also, I can definitely say that his input, dedication, talent and level of professionalism have exceeded my expectations. It wasn't hard to challenge him to deliver an even better sound that I wanted and he has the knowledge to deliver top quality content. I look forward to collaborating with him on a long term basis for my album, not just a single.

Andrei is a great professional! He pays a lot of attention to the author's comments and suggestions. As for me, it's very important to have a connection between you and the producer.
    The result exceeded my expectations.
It was easy and comfortable to work together.
Andrei created for me an arrangement, mastering, and vocal tuning.
It was great! I am happy about the song and will continue to work with him in the future for sure.
Truly can recommend him to everyone!

  8. Review by Mikhel

I've worked with Andrei on a variety of projects over the last 4 years, and each occasion to work together has been great. He is a very talented producer and guitarist with great musical knowledge and intuition. He possesses the perfect combination of creative ability as well as technical knowledge. He is also a great person to work with, skilled at taking ideas and developing them further. I would very highly recommend Andrei!

  9. Review by Rocco London

Most producers have a niche or specialty, but Andrei is able to make and understand music for any genre, so as an artist, I don't feel like I'm being put in a box or limited to a certain type of music. Andrei doesn't like to tell people, but he has a PhD in music from Oxford, so I think you're in pretty good hands!!

5 stars is too little, Andrei is a musical genius and the music scene's best kept secret. I hope you don't all book him at once, as I don't know if I'm ready to share the best producer out there with you all!

  10. Review by Rocco London

Andrei is also great to work with as a person, I find our studio sessions positive and incredibly motivating. He also organises me and manages our time so we're not going over, he's efficient and wants what's best for you and the song. Other producers tend to want to stretch their time with you and exhaust studio time for their monetary gain - but certainly not Andrei, he puts other producers I've worked with to shame.

  11. Review by Rocco

I trust Andrei with my ideas and he gets me as an artist and the direction I want to go with all my music. Andrei takes a lot of time to understand who he is working with, I feel like we are always on the same page and making incredible music due to his amazing skill to understand his subjects and the brief. This sounds simple, but trust me, as a singer in the industry for 20 years, it can be incredibly hard to find a producer that you can work with so fluidly and in sync.

  12. Review by Rocco

I am not classically trained so to have someone who is, guiding you to tell you if you've hit a bum not or you're singing out of time, is so handy.

Andrei lives and breathes music, I've been in the industry for 20 years and Andrei is my main go to producer who I trust to deliver my songs and elevate them beyond what I thought was imaginable. It feels like we make hit after hit every time. Andrei is always researching and listening to the latest music so he is up to date and trend forecasting, so your music always sounds fresh and on point.

  13. Review by Rocco

I've worked with Andrei for many years, he's not only a producer, but also an incredible musician, he's the perfect mix of creative and technical ability, which is very difficult to find.
We make music from beginning to end without any other help. Obviously this is excellent value, but it's also a dream to have someone who is so musically knowledgable, the support and guidance I get during the recording process is invaluable.

Interview with Andrei Sora

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Electric Tuxedo. I was just starting to feel comfortable as a producer, and the experience of working on radio-friendly pop productions pushed my skills to new heights. I'm especially proud of a track called 'Better Than Advertised', as I also wrote and played guitar on it.

  3. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  4. A: That it's an easy job. Fun & fulfilling? 100%. But it's no walk in the park! :)

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: Bruno Mars, as I'd learn a lot from his way of writing and producing songs. Billie Eilish because her voice and attitude speak to me in a way other artists in her niche don't. Twenty One Pilots because they're my favorite act at the moment and would love to be part of any of their future projects.

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: Pop, synth pop, electro pop, alternative pop, and, occasionally, alternative rock.

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: Knowing how everything fits musically and using that knowledge to enhance the emotional narrative presented by the lyrics. And patience :)

  11. Q: What's your typical work process?

  12. A: If it's a production, I take the vocal melodies and play around with chords to them until the song starts to take shape. Then I start working on the drums until the kick and snare hit right, after which I switch to bass and other elements. When the instrumental production is 90% there, I go back to the vocals and process them, adding effects and automation to help them sit right in the mix and project the emotion of the lyrics.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: I'm a Reaper user, but Ableton's also in my tool-belt if I need specific devices that Reaper isn't equipped with (a fully-featured sampler, for instance). I use a Novation Impulse 25 for midi and drum triggering, a Nektar GX61 for performing more complex piano parts, and a Frontier AplhaTrack as a controller, particularly for mixing. As for plugins, I manly use FabFilter, but also own a variety of others from Soundtoys, Waves, Cableguys etc. In terms of instruments, I only use virtual synths, with Pigments, Twin 2 and multiple NI devices as my go to plugins.

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: Twenty One Pilots have been on my radar for a long time. I love their approach to music-making, with their latest album being a production masterpiece in my book. Ian Kirkpatrick and Finneas are also someone I admire in the pop world. Of course, I also find inspiration in the work of legends such as Chris Lord Alge or Andrew Scheps.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: Production, mixing, and mastering, more often than not as a package.

  19. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  20. A: I bring my expertise as a producer, engineer, and instrumentalist. I've been making music for 15 years and have explored a slew of styles, from candy pop to heavy metal.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: Emotional, alternating between vulnerable sparse and intense wall-of-sound sections.

  23. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  24. A: Listen to their reel, have a long chat, and make sure they're the right fit for your creative vision.

  25. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  26. A: The fact that it makes every morning exciting.

  27. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  28. A: That I'll go all in on their project, regardless of scope.

  29. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  30. A: Digital. It's quicker and portable.

  31. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  32. A: Laptop, mouse, small midi keyboard, Reaper, FabFilter Total Bundle.

  33. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  34. A: Automate the formant knob on a plugin such as Soundtoys Little AlterBoy and you'll get a modern sounding vocal that's perfect for a hook. Add a lush reverb to that and you'll have a great adlib too!

  35. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  36. A: How does the song fit into your catalogue, what's its role in your larger body of work?

  37. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  38. A: Can you record guitars? My answer is always yes, particularly if it's electric guitars and basses, as that's where my expertise as an instrumentalist is.

  39. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  40. A: An exciting project called Rocco And Rei. But hush hush for now!

  41. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  42. A: Mikhel ( one of the best vocalists I've worked with!

  43. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  44. A: It hasn't been the most straightforward, constantly bouncing between being a musician and an academic. I hold a BA from UNMB, a master's degree from the University of Oxford, and a PhD from the University of Surrey, all in music. However, the process reinforced my view that 'writing about music is like dancing about architecture', and with this realization came the freedom to DO music rather than philosophize about it.
