Interview with The Indiigo Child
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How much do you charge for mixing and mastering. I work with the artist or producer budget and always try to be fair with pricing. Also, be careful with people that offer mastering services for cheap. Mastering is a unique speciality which generally to be done correctly requires very specific room, speakers and specialized technical experience. I do not provide a mastering service, however, I will prepare your mix for mastering.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’m especially proud of my last 2 EP’s “ “Renegade Voyager” & “ Save My World”.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently working on projects for my upcoming EP as The Indiigo ChIld.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I personally use a mix of both and I have the best results when I use a mix of both analog and digital. Analog provides the warmth that I need sonically meanwhile the digital plug ins balance that warmth. Really makes for a nice sound.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to give your 100% and I only take on projects I think I can help enhance. If I feel your track is not ready for a mix or already is at amazing quality, then I won’t take on the project.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Helping someone achieve their goals brings me satisfaction!
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That expensive gear is going to make a mix sound good. Yes, expensive gear has advantages, however, experience is more important then gear and coupled with the right gear is when things become amazing!!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Have a vision or your project. Just by having a vision will help you articulate better what the track should sound like.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Understand that every part of the process is a speciality, production, mixing and mastering. Make sure your happy with the first step which is the actual production. If your not happy there then your probably not ready for the mixing and mastering part.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been working on the music production field for over 10 years.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Mixing and creating Music is like cooking food, too much of anything and it ruins the meal. Everything must be applied with moderation.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: For my own productions, I focus on electronic music, however, I have worked extensively on different genres and the same concepts apply across the musical spectrum.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I have a very honest ear when it comes to any musical project and I’m honest with myself and with any client that I’m working with.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Typically, I’m very organized with my mixing process, I first speak to the artist to really understand what creative direction they are going in with and the sonics and texture they are looking to achieve.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: For mixing I use a variety of Plug ins and have an UA Apollo 8p interface.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I am currently focused on mixing tracks and preparing stems/ 2 track mix down for mastering. At this time my production work is exclusive to my own projects.
