Professional, Jaki gave my song the voice it needed - a great performance. She made the whole process easy and stress free, pretty much nailing the brief in the first round.

Wow wow wow. Jaki was able to take my initial suggestions of what I pictured, and was able to deliver something way beyond what I could've possibly envisioned. Her vocals fit PERFECTLY with my track and I'm so so excited to see my track come to life now with her help.
Will 1000% work with her again. THANK YOU!!!!

A+ What a magnificent job Jaki Nelson did in interpreting and recording our song "I'm The Boss of Me." First, she improved the melodic structure, then sang the lead and backup vocals - and then did a bang up job on the entire Production of the project - which provided a more contemporary feel than we had originally envisioned. What a pleasure Jaki was to work with: She was so responsive! And made herself easily available for discussions regarding instrumental and other production choices.

"It was great to work with Jaki! When we wanted a specific vocal style and gave an example of a well-known singer, Jaki was able to adjust his voice according to our wishes, and we even received different variations from him. We are extremely happy with the final result. A special mention goes to the fact that Jaki has excellent vocal gear (Neumann etc.) and a great vocal booth. Mixing is enjoyable when the vocal tracks are free from resonances or technical weaknesses. 5/5

Interview with Jaki Nelson
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will help you get your track to the highest level. Not just on the front end, but all the way through to the finish line. I am extremely familiar with ear fatigue and how that can effect producers when they're getting close to being done with a song, so I offer free feedback sessions either in written format or online in real time so that you have fresh, invested ears checking to make sure that everything is good to go.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure that the song is in a key that the singer sounds good in, and that they have the range to hit all the notes you want them to! On occasion, I have to make minor adjustments to the melody because a certain low note is simply impossible for me to hit, but I always clear it with the producer/writer first.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Years of in-studio experience, as well as on massive stages. I'm a Cerified Platinum recording artist, and I've spent a lot of time working with the pro's pros. I've charted as a songwriter and recording artist on Billboard 4 times, 2 of those times getting into the top 10. I've worked with Grammy nominees and winners and Mainstream Top 40 artists. About 1,500,000 people listen to my songs per month on Spotify alone.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Songwriting - I listen to the track a few times and wait for a music video to start playing in my head. I try to feel out the story the track is telling me and then relate to that story with my own experiences. Once I know the story I'm trying to tell, I get straight to work on the chorus. Once I've got a verse 1, maybe a pre, and a full chorus, I send that over for approval, so I know we're on the same page. Once I've got approval, I move on to the rest. Pre-written songs - Once I have received the demo, I listen to it a few times with the lyrics in front of me, start learning it, breaking down the lyrics to understand what the song is about and how it should be sung, and then I start recording as soon as I can. I like to do a dummy recording first to practice getting it "perfect", and then the next morning I do the actual full out recording. Producing - I like to start by getting a feel for the reference track - the genre, mood, energy, and production style. Then I like to start by finding a lead instrument that's going to show me what the drums should sound like. From there, it can go in any order depending on whether I already have the vocal or not.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I'm very proud of my song "Dancing With Strangers". I wrote it with Grammy winner Dave Aude and Lauren Dyson (BTS). It went Top 10 on Billboard as the only independent song in the top 20, and we got to tour with it all over the country.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I work a lot in the pitching world writing songs for other artists, so when I'm not doing a soundbetter job, I'm producing a demo for a producer!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I always want to know what the reference track is. What style of vocal are you looking for? Because if you're looking for Adele, and I give you Julia Michaels, you're not going to be happy. Let's get on the same page.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Neumann u87, Neve 1073, my Apollo Twin, My MacBook, and my Korg Grandstage.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Pop leaning dance.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That just because I'm a trained singer, that I'm not a musician. I have years of ongoing music theory study, classical piano study, and thousands of hours of classes and experience in production.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Ron Geffen. GREAT producer, and he's crazy fast. He once sent me a master in the time it took me to drive home from his studio. Tell him I sent you!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I'm a lifelong computer nerd. I love sitting in my studio and making my recordings and productions PERFECT. It's hard for me to hit the pause button most days to even make lunch because I'm having too much fun.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: I've had a lot of producers ask me how I am able to phase myself on a double. I guess I'm really really consistent! lol
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started singing somewhere around birth, started taking piano and voice lessons around 8, got really into production at about 17, and I've been doing it ever since.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: The Monsters and Strangerz. They're the best in the industry.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: After you time all of your vocals perfectly, move the whole vocal 2 or 3 milliseconds to the right. It'll make the whole vocal feel more relaxed.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Dance, Indie Dance, Indie, and Pop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: In-studio vocals.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I run a Neumann u87 into an outboard Neve 1073 into an Audioscape 76A Limiting Amp into an Audioscape Opto Comp, into an Apollo Twin X. For tracking, I like Logic Pro X, but when I'm producing, you'll find me on Ableton. I have a LOT of plugins.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: About 60% of the artists on any given New Music Friday playlist. As far as specific artists, I love the style of Camila Cabello's voice, the writing style of Julia Michaels, and the production style of Ian Kirkpatrick.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I write & record final vocals for producers at my studio.
