everything is fine with my project and Jaki!
It was great working with Nelson.
Excellent vocalist and happy to help even when things don't go to plan at first, I would definitely recommend Jaki for any songwriting and singing you need.
Jaki was a pleasure to work with! Definitely will work with her again in the future :)
A great artist with an incredible singing range and puts so much emotion with her voice into the story of the song. One million percent recommend her. Thank you Jaki!
Jaki - what can you say - awesomeness is so easy to deal with! thanks Jaki love your voice and how we can work together...thanks
It was a tremendous pleasure to collaborate with Jaki. Not only is she absolutely professional, but she also intuitively understands the direction a producer aims for, resulting in an incredibly fantastic outcome in a straightforward manner. I am eagerly looking forward to working with her again soon.
5/5 top top Singer! she knows what she’s doing! When I had struggles she understood and we made it great for both parts! Really amazing and a loving person! Always very nice when sending and recieving a message! Have to say I’m really thankful
Her singing and topline are excellent! Very satisfying!
Jaki is an absolute rockstar. I've worked with Jaki for years across multiple projects. She provides absolutely amazing services, is incredibly knowledgeable on all things music, and the very best in the business at what she does. Highly recommended.
Jaki is very patient and professional even the task I have given her is not very easy or smooth. Really glad to have her in this project. Wish her all the best in her career.
Jaki Nelson is awesome. She is very talented and a real Pro. Her responses and understanding of things we wanted done were Superb. Her delivery top notch.
This is our 2nd project with Jaki and you know what? I cant wait for the 3rd.
This is my second song with Jaki and both times she has more than surpassed my expectations. Amazing talent!
Jaki is a Brilliant EDM vocalist, on point with everything and so commercial..An elite professional that I would have no hesitation in releasing EDM songs with, on any major label. Jaki's vocals took my new EDM song to another level..
This project was very complex beginning with feeling the emotion of the song to bringing the energy and passion from start to finish, introducing while controlling the underlying tension giving the listener a very special experience. You listen to this track and what Jaki has done with it and you say to yourself, “Damn, she understands me!” It takes a special talent to bring that home and Jaki raised the bar and delivered something that a Grammy award winner stated, “Oh this is magical’”
Jaki was so helpful, professional, and overall very cool to work with. She's thorough and made sure her vocals matched or enhanced my vision of the song. She really has that artist's flair and it took my song to the next level. Excellent!
She is amazing!!! Beyond having a great voice and knowing how to use it, she is super easy to work with as she is great at following written guidance, asking questions, and definitely knows the ups and downs of recording voices. I would definitely work with her again.
Excellent vocal performance from Jaki. She is very professional and understood my vision with the song. Would love to work with her again.
Jaki is probably the best vocalist I've worked with to date, and I've had the pleasure of working with incredible incredible artists. Her professionalism, attentiveness, and care for the project made me feel like the center of her attention and her ideas for the project were inspiring and unique and very creative. I seriously can't wait to work with her again, 12/10.
I will never forget working with Jaki!!
She is professional and uses her skills to ensure that my work is the best it can be.
She created the right energy for my songs, and she is attentive and actively discusses and communicates with her collaborators about the music.
She hopes to work with her again. This will be the perfect vocalist you are looking for!! :)
Interview with Jaki Nelson
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I'm very proud of my song "Dancing With Strangers". I wrote it with Grammy winner Dave Aude and Lauren Dyson (BTS). It went Top 10 on Billboard as the only independent song in the top 20, and we got to tour with it all over the country.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I work a lot in the pitching world writing songs for other artists, so when I'm not doing a soundbetter job, I'm producing a demo for a producer!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I always want to know what the reference track is. What style of vocal are you looking for? Because if you're looking for Adele, and I give you Julia Michaels, you're not going to be happy. Let's get on the same page.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Neumann u87, Neve 1073, my Apollo Twin, My MacBook, and my Korg Grandstage.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Pop leaning dance.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Years of in-studio experience, as well as on massive stages. I've charted as a songwriter and recording artist on Billboard 4 times, 2 of those times getting into the top 10. I've worked with Grammy nominees and winners and Mainstream Top 40 artists. My songs stream at around 650,000 a month.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: If I'm writing, I listen to the track a few times and wait for the music video to start playing in my head. I try to feel out the story the track is telling me and then relate to that story with my own experiences. Once I know the story I'm trying to tell, I get straight to work on the chorus. I send that over first to get approval, so I know we're on the same page. Once I've got approval, I move on to the verses, pre-chorus, and bridge (if relevant). For pre-written songs - Once I have received the demo, I listen to it a few times with the lyrics in front of me, start learning it, breaking down the lyrics to understand what the song is about and how it should be sung, and then I start recording as soon as I can. I like to do a dummy recording first to practice getting it "perfect", and then the next morning I do the actual full out recording.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: More often than not, I'll get your song done in 3 days or less. In the event that I don't, I will always get your project done in the allotted time. Guaranteed.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure that the song is in a key that the singer sounds good in, and that they have the range to hit all the notes you want them to! Sometimes, I have to make minor adjustments to the melody because a certain low note is simply impossible for me to hit, but I always clear it with the producer/writer first.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That just because I'm a trained singer, that I'm not a musician. I have years of ongoing music theory study, classical piano study, and thousands of hours of classes and experience in production.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Ron Geffen. GREAT producer, and he's crazy fast. He once sent me a master in the time it took me to drive home from his studio. Tell him I sent you!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I'm a lifelong computer nerd. I love sitting in my studio and making my recordings and productions PERFECT.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: I've had a lot of producers ask me how I am able to phase myself on a double. I guess I'm really really consistent! lol
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started singing somewhere around birth, started taking piano and voice lessons around 8, got really into production at about 17, and I've been doing it ever since.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: The Monsters and Strangerz. They're the best in the industry.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: After you time all of your vocals perfectly, move the whole vocal 2 or 3 milliseconds to the right. It'll make the whole vocal feel more relaxed.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Dance, Indie Dance, Indie, and Pop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: In-studio vocals.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I run Logic Pro X for recording purposes. I record into the industry standard Neumann u87 into a Neve 1073.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: About 60% of the artists on any given New Music Friday playlist. As far as specific artists, I love the style of Camila Cabello's voice, the writing style of Julia Michaels, and the production style of Selena Gomez.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I record final vocals for producers and songwriters at my home studio.
