Christian Cabrera on SoundBetter

As a seasoned mixing engineer with over 15 years of experience, I specialize in bringing emotions to life through music. With my unique approach and top-notch equipment, I strive to deliver a sonically pleasing sound that will take your music to the next level. From the ground up, I'll work with you to bring your creative vision to life.

Hi, I'm Chris, but I go by Mindlabs. I'm a mixing engineer with over 15 years of experience in the music industry, specializing in Rap, Hip Hop, R&B, Pop, and Acoustic genres. I also have a degree in Audio Engineering and have won an Emmy for a current daytime running morning show.
What sets me apart from other mixing engineers is my unique approach to mixing. I strongly believe that music can evoke emotions, and my aim is to deliver a sonically pleasing sound from beginning to end.
When working with clients, my process always starts from the ground up. I listen to the ideas and references that the artist likes and wants, and once I have a clear understanding of their vision, I begin mixing. Throughout the process, I pay close attention to every detail to ensure that I deliver the best possible mix, while staying in consistent communication with the artist at every revision.
What I want potential clients to know is that their music, which they've created at their most vulnerable points, is in the hands of someone who is capable of bringing their ideas to life. If you're looking for a mixing engineer who will take your music to the next level, feel free to get in touch with me.

Interview with Christian Cabrera

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I am currently working on various mixing projects.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: My mentor Keith Ross. He is one of the nicest, honest & caring individuals I have had the pleasure of working with & an overall genuine friend. Ive learned a lot from him.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: There are valuable aspects of both analog and digital equipment that contribute to the mixing and mastering process. I myself work on a hybrid setup where I have access to both, & I firmly believe that there is something to be said about not just the sound quality but the feeling you get when running audio through analog equipment that digital just cant reproduce.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: What I like most about my job is the ability to create something that evokes emotions and touches people's lives. I feel blessed knowing that I get to work on some amazing music created by extremely talented artists on a regular basis. Above all, I value the trust that artists place in me to bring their music to the next level, and I am honored to be a part of that process.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: Usually my first question is tailored to finding out if there is a reference of a song that the artist has in mind as to where they would like the direction of the mix to go.

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: If I was on a desert island, & somehow I had equipment with me, I could not live without my MacBook Pro, my UAD Interface, My burl B2 Bomber, My Sennheiser HD 650's & my SSL Mynx

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: My career path from the very beginning was always tailored to be in the audio field. I started producing when I was 14 using Reason Adapted, & worked my way up through different studios & TV Stations, eventually opening up my own recording studio. Ive been working on music for the last 19 years of my life in some form.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Sometimes Less is More. Don't overthink when you're creating.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: I find myself usually working on HipHop, Pop & R&B.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: My typical work process starts from gathering any information from the client based on any ideas or references that they would like me to use to approach a mix. Once I have a general idea, I start building the sonics from ground up. I also focus on making sure the client & myself communicate regularly as the work gets done to ensure that the final product is exactly what they were searching for.

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: I find myself inspired by other mixing engineers such as Josh Gudwin, Teezio, Dave Pensado, Serban Ghenea & Tony Maserati

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: Usually the most common types of work I do for my clients involve recording & mixing.
