Interview with Gabe Neal
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently in the middle of a full Album project with an amazing client based out of Dallas. I'm also working on an album project for my group JST FRNDS.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: If given the choice, I will almost always lean towards an analog piece of gear over digital. However, I have zero problems with digital emulations of the exact same tools. It's all about what gets the job done and what's available.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Always make sure you connect personally with your producer and make sure they have your best interest at heart.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Neumann TLM 103, Warm Audio WA73, UAD Apollo Twin, M1 Pro MacBook Pro , and a lifetime supply of Seltzer Water
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been doing music for about 10 years. My career as a songwriter/producer began with my current artist project JST FRNDS (18,000,000+ Streams)
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Organic/Electronic Hybrid
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Make the song good first! No amount of production will ever fix a bad song.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Capturing a feeling
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I've worked in teams that understand how to take songs from a voice memo to commercial success (25,000,000+ records sold). I bring pop sensibility to melody and song structure.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Getting to know the client is always priority #1. I always give the songwriting the attention it deserves before moving on w/ production.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I currently work out of my home studio based right outside of Pittsburgh, PA!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Artists who produce their own work. (ex.) Charlie Puth, Lauv and Ryan Tedder!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Songwriting & Music/Vocal Production!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Primarily Pop, all different flavors, but my strong suit is sounds like Lauv, Taylor Swift etc.
