Access to world class facilities and a drive for perfection

Let me help you get the sound your songs deserve.

My name is Connor, I'm 29 and currently in my second year as a sound engineering student.I have 12 years of experience producing music, mixing and mastering included and am now pursuing a full time career in the field. I'm very passionate about electronic music, especially House but also have a love for many other genres and am confident working with anything.

Coming from a competitive and professional environment as a carpenter I am used to putting out high quality work at a high rate and am a great communicator.

As a student I currently have access to my schools brand new music studio facilities, rooms designed for mixing and mastering with large well tuned playback systems. I can work with outboard gear as well if you would like some of that analog goodness :D

I am proficient in Pro Tools, Cubase, Ableton and Audient ASP8024 desks. With me you will get good communication, fast turnover and high quality work at a low cost.

Interview with Connor Turnbull

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Analog is awesome sounding and a lot of fun to work with but I prefer digital for clarity and workflow. Somewhere in between is best I feel.

  3. Q: How would you describe your style?

  4. A: Relaxed and thoughtful.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: Efficient workflow and an ear for detail.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: Before mixing I will get reference tracks and do a lot of genre related listening. Once in the studio I order my project, do some levelling and then work upwards from the drums. I will get my mixes to about 80% completion before testing on a master bus to see what obvious changes I need to make, after this is done I finish the mix, give it a day then reasses and make any final changes the next day.

  9. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  10. A: A project where bands come into the studio and are recorded live and filmed, then mixing, mastering and editing the live performances for promotion.

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Bring reference tracks

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I have been a carpenter for the last 12 years and producing music for the last 15, I am currently at the transitional period in my career where I want to move to mixing/mastering full time.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Always use reference tracks

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: House, Techno

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: I love working with drums and creating awesome drum sounds.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: I work between home and my university brand new studio facilities. At home I work on Yamaha Hs8 monitors as well as avantones to check mixes. At my university I work in acoustically treated rooms with phenomenal playback systems. I either work on pro tools or Cubase for mixing music and will work between my home PC, laptop and university computers.

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: Sebastien Leger, Deadmau5, The Flaming Lips
