Interview with Christine Curtis

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I am currently working on a double sided project. One side will be an acoustic EP and the other soul. It is to be released next year.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: I know Dante Alston and Brandon Yancey. I would highly recommend them both to my clients.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: I love the ability to take an idea and concept and turn it into a tangible project.

  7. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  8. A: I would love to work with Ed Sheeran and FKA Twigs. I feel both have their own style and are amazing writers and I feel I could learn tremendously from both.

  9. Q: How would you describe your style?

  10. A: My writing style of poetic, story-teller, and I am more like a painter with my lyrics.

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Know what you want to convey for that makes it easier for the engineer to mix it accordingly. Different mixes align with the way the sound it intended to hit the ears of the audience.

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: I listen to music, let the chords guide me if the client doesn’t already have a direction, record draft, submit them to the client, and repeat the process until the final product is satisfactory. If we are in the studio together, I start a conversation about where their thought go when they listen to the music and what do they feel. For demo referencing I learn the work and record.

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: My inspiration comes from Prince, Ed Sheeran, Rico Love, Christian Rich, Jazmine Sullivan, H.E.R., Jessie J, Alesia Cara, and Maggie Rogers.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: My ability to pick up material quickly and record quickly. I’m very serious about not wasting time in the studio.

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: RnB and POP

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: Sultry, sexy, strong, and melodic vocals. If I am writing I bring my innovation and depth as well.

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: RnB, POP, and Neo Soul
