Another great time working with Mella!

My first time she gave me a lead performance that was outstanding and I really loved.

This project, I needed some cool background vocals to match a male performance and she did an awesome job! Vocals and harmonies sound great!

She can do it all, be sure to reach out to Mella and ask how she can help your project!

Mella's voice is amazing, her tracks work perfect, she completes work when promised and is a total professional. She added some ad libs that I love and elevate my song a whole level. This is the second song that I have worked with her on and both came out great.

I could keep this review short and mention Mella's performance helped make me & others get teary-eyed. But I'll share a couple details.

Had a pretty demanding project with some serious notes, full harmonies & also needed to nail the right "vibe" for it to work. Mella was awesome in working with me in finding the right sound, and delivering a big, lifting performance.

After editing it all together & my jaw dropping at times at the clean big notes, project is everything I wanted thanks to Mella.

5 stars isn't enough for Mella. Her pitch perfect, empathetic singing, total dedication and loyalty to the project she is working on, as well as her professional attitude have made her my go to female singer for more than 4 years now. And she is a thoroughly good human being too.

I just had another awesome vocal back from Mella. The depth of emotion she is able to express in her singing, together with her uncannily pitch perfect tuning, her professionalism, her excellent communication while a project is ongoing and the texture of her voice (which she can adapt on request, depending on the style required) make her one in a million. An absolute vocal jewel. Thank you Mella!

Some singers have talent. Some are conscientious. Some are uncannily pitch perfect like auto-tune, but with a better attitude, and vibe/passion. But not many, if any, have ALL of these things. Mella does. I have completed many projects over the last few years with her, and she has never, ever let me down. I can't recommend her work highly enough.

Interview with Mella

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: I have a fully professional home studio and use Logic primarily, but I am also familiar with Cubase and Protools. Most work is done on a Mac but I also have a PC if needed.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Too many to mention! Please look at my reviews, these are all brilliant creators that I would highly recommend. But I mean I would recommend myself, that's why I'm here! :)

  5. Q: How would you describe your style?

  6. A: Versatile would be the best word for my session singing, but as a writer who sings my own songs, I definitely have to have my own style and I would describe it as honest with a little bit of innocence. I write what I feel.

  7. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  8. A: Anyone who takes the business seriously and treats it as exactly that - a business. I show up on time and complete my projects on time and respect those who do the same!

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: Most commonly, I provide songwriting and session singing services. I have done this for many years for many satisfied clients and can provide references if necessary. Additionally, I can do voice-overs, editing and production.

  11. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  12. A: I'm proud of my own, full-length album that I released, mainly because all the songs were my own and I didn't have to meet anyone's approval in terms of lyrics or themes. Every song on it is deeply personal and was so much fun to work on. It is called Zebra Stone and is available on iTunes if you feel like checking it out!

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: That "anyone can do it." Good singers are everywhere, but someone who can treat this as a business and provide professional services are rare. Having a great voice is certainly an important component, but there is a difference between a live singer who sounds great and an experienced, polished session singer who can turn a song into a viable composition.

  15. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  16. A: I always have my own little projects going on. I am working on a Jazz EP and working on writing country songs for other clients. Additionally I am always doing a few session recordings for clients, so I stay pretty busy!

  17. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  18. A: Digital. Come on guys. I know there are people who are loyal to the old school methods but we need to grow and move into the new technology (which by the way is not that new anymore, haha). I was raised in the digital era so that's probably why I am partial to it. I'm totally cool with analog but I don't know it well and don't use it myself so...digital all the way for me. :)

  19. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  20. A: I promise to treat you like an esteemed client, and respect your needs. I will deliver the product on time and will work with you to ensure it is something you will love.

  21. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  22. A: I love the creativity, and helping people finish their songs. That moment the whole thing comes together is amazing and magical. I also love the hard work. Getting in there and putting in the time and effort, even when it gets frustrating and tough. I wouldn't have it any other way.

  23. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  24. A: "Can you sing like Billie Holiday?" Yes. "Can you sing like Shakira?" Yes. "Can you sing like Dixie Chicks?" Yes. "Can you sing like Rod Stewart?" No. "Can you include harmonies?" Yes. "How many?" Typically two harmonies are standard. "Can you mix the vocals into the project?" Sure. "Can you get this done quickly?" Yes, depending on your definition of quickly. "Can you perform at my father's funeral?" (This was an actual question) Um...I mean....that's not really something I do and also I didn't know your dad? So...

  25. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  26. A: What do you plan on doing with the song? Who is your ideal listener? How do you want them to feel when they hear this? What major artists do you think would sing this? What vocal style are you looking for? Do you want harmonies? And...when do you need it?

  27. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  28. A: Please give me as much detail as possible! Don't feel like you're going to overload me with information. The more I have, the better I can create the sound you want. Listen to other artists out there and let me know what you think of them. Comments like "I love how this artist sounds, but I can't stand this one" this helps me to understand what you are looking for. Let me know the goal of the song and how you want the listener to feel when they hear it. We can create an awesome piece of music together!

  29. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  30. A: I would take my laptop, interface, keyboard, mic and cords! Also I know a lot of people don't consider this "gear" but my notebook is extremely important. I would be lost without it. But let's be honest...if I'm on a desert island I'm using what I have to build a raft, because how am I plugging anything in with no electricity? Haha. Just give me an old school recorder and a notebook and a raft.

  31. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  32. A: I have been doing this for at least 10 years. My father is a musician, as was his father, and so on, so I know how important it is to do the job right the first time. My dad was a drummer and my job was to help set up the drum set. Boring and tedious work but if it wasn't done right, it meant the show couldn't go on. I learned a lot from that and understand that you have to put in the time and effort because it's worth it in the end.

  33. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  34. A: I would welcome the chance to work with any hard-working, determined artist who shares the same passion and work ethic I do. Come one, come all!

  35. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  36. A: Be Professional. I know that sounds obvious, but apparently it isn't. Don't bring your kids to the studio. Don't bring your friends to the studio. Don't spill your drink all over and not clean it up. Show up on time. Work. Let people know if you can't make it or are running late. If you're reading this and thinking "duh" then congratulate yourself because you would not believe how many people don't know these simple facts!

  37. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  38. A: Pop, Country and Jazz are my main specialties, but I also do Blues, EDM and top lining.

  39. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  40. A: I think it would be my impersonations, but also my turnaround time and my ability to communicate with the client to determine their needs. I can get you what you want, 100%.

  41. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  42. A: Well, I am pretty good at impersonations, so if someone contacts me and says "I want this to sound like Miranda Lambert" or "Can you do this like Stevie Nicks?" I'm pretty good at sounding as close to that as possible or at least channeling that vibe. I also bring a lot of soul, passion and blah blah blah but I'm sure every singer says that here so I won't go into a lot of detail. You're reading this because you're wondering if you should hire me. I'm here to convince you that you should. You can get a singer with passion anywhere honestly, but if you're looking for a specific "sound" please contact me because I can likely recreate it!

  43. Q: What's your typical work process?

  44. A: Get in and get it done! I don't have time to procrastinate, and neither do my clients because time is money. I make sure I know what the client is looking for and then go for it.
