Interview with Palstar Records Inc.

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: We work in the box but we have a few outboard analog gear that we incorporate in our mastering chain. I have been a Pro tools user for 8 years. I have a Avid Carbon Audio Interface, a pair of PMC Result6s, a pair of Yamaha HS8 monitors & a pair of KRK Rokit RP5 G4 Monitors.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: They are both awesome!. we like combining both in our chain.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: Quality is a must and not an Option. 100% satisfaction and we do revisions.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: The way we get to interact with artists from allover the world and help them make great music.

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: There seem to be hundreds of mastering studios offering their services on the web, so sorting through them may seem like a challenging task. The key thing is to always look for someone who can be able to help you achieve your Goal & help you progress in your career.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: 8 years

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: Our style is hard-working, respectful of the music and extremely committed. We would never deliver a mastering that we are not completely proud of.

  15. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  16. A: Any artist would be a good go for us. We love interacting with artists from allover the word.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: We can work with any type of song, actually a Mix of everything. Pop, EDM, Soul, Rock, Hip Hop, RnB and others.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: Our experience is our strongest skill. We can listen to the music and understand very quickly if it has been properly mixed or not, and if not we come up with a solution and communicate it with my client on how to get there.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: We bring our Strongest skill which is our experience and more importantly, we bring our absolute commitment to deliver an impeccable work. We don´t stop until our client is 100% satisfied.

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: Our typical work process is listening to the song or references uninterrupted and feeling the vibe. We then make some internal notes on what we can do and how we feel we can take the track to the next level. we want to add our vibe and skill to the track while keeping the original artists vision.

  25. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  26. A: We get inspiration every single day from musicians, Dj's, Producers & fellow engineers from all over the world.

  27. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  28. A: Lot of projects from local artists that I work with regularly and also my soundbetter clients from all over the world.

  29. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  30. A: Can mastering fix a bad mix? - the sound of the final master is limited to the quality of the mix. Even the world best mastering engineers won't be able to make an awful mix sound like a hit.

  31. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  32. A: Many people still believe that mastering is a purely technical process. Nothing, really nothing can be farther from the truth. Mastering is an entirely creative process that can save your mix right before it reaches the audience. Never underestimate the power of a good mastering process.

  33. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  34. A: The Quickest way to ruin your master is Over-compressing it, So aim for About 1 to 2 dB of gain reduction, with no more than 4dB on the Peaks.

  35. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  36. A: I'd like to know your visions, as well as artists & songs you love.

  37. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  38. A: 1. Laptop 2. My soundcard 3. KRK Rokit RP5 G4 Monitors 4. Headphones 5. Guitar

  39. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  40. A: I was working (mixing & Mastering) on an album for a certain Band and we were able to come up with something that we all liked.
