Interview with Rebecca Madro
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I am proud of my first release since it has opened up many doors for me!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am releasing three tracks this summer. One is already attached to a label. I hope the others will soon follow!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I'll ask around!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: A happy middle between the two.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Quality lyrics and vocals to match.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The ability to work with people around the world.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How long to get the finished product. The answer depends on what needs to be done, but I work as fast as I can without losing quality.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That song writing is easy.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is the theme you are going for?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be specific in what you're looking for so I can provide exactly what you want!
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My mic, interface, and computer so I can write a song about how miserable it is being stuck on a desert island.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been writing and toplining for the past two years, although I have been singing for the last decade.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Big vocals with clever lyrics.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Florence + the Machine. Insanely powerful lyrics with music that drives my soul.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Be willing to explore different ideas in the studio. Sometimes what sounds good in writing doesn't translate in the booth. If you're open to where the song can take you, you may surprise yourself!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Typically EDM, pop, or indie pop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Writing melodies. I enjoy seeing the different ways I can write a song.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My lyrics tends to be highly visual with dynamic melodies. I like to push what feeling lyrics can entice in a lister to bring the song to the next level.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Depending on the project, I like to get a sense of what the producer or singer is going for in terms of theme. That heavily drives my creative process. Once that is established, I begin writing and forming ideas one section at a time. Once the song is written, I record multiple tracks until I am happy with the performance. Then I send it out for approval or notes for things to change.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a vocal booth with a Gold Diaphragm Condenser microphone hooked up to a Focusrite interface. I can deliver MP3, WAVE, or AIFF files as requested.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Florence + the Machine is my favourite band. I love their lyrics, melodies, and big sound. Florence is a huge inspiration to me as a song writer. I like to incorporate lots of imagery into my writing which they are very well known for.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Primarily songwriting and toplining.
