Khamani Hagood on SoundBetter

Composer with experience in film and television specializing working in many genres.

I earned my Bachelor’s of Music in Music Theory and Composition at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, then went on to earn my Master’s of Fine Art in Music Composition for the Screen at Columbia College Chicago. While at Columbia, I learned the ins and outs of scoring to picture, as well as music technology. I also scored five student short films ranging from comedy, to animation, to drama.

Professionally, I have written the score and contributed music and sound design to several short films and television shows such as “Augustus” (for which I won “Best Soundtrack” in the July 2020 New York International Film Awards), “Bridgerton,” “Mrs. America,” “The Society,” “Black Monday,” the latest season of “Raising Dion,” and “The Beauty President.”

As for my personal style, I enjoy composing electronic music, and hybrid music with a focus on texture, timbre, and synthesis. Moreover, I incorporate synthesizers in all of my music whether it be soft synths or my hardware synths, which includes my modular synth.

Working with Khamani was a true pleasure. He brought talent, style and insight to my project. He is not only professional but excellent at collaborating with little need for direction. Khamani is highly recommended.

  2. A: I worked on the Netflix show, "The Society" creating additional music. I was brought on to help out by working on cues that were more atmospheric, tense, and dark that required synthesizers and sound design.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Personally, I don't see a need to differentiate. They both have their strengths and weaknesses, but it's all about how you use them.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: The creative problem solving is what I like most. I love that moment when I'm presented with a problem and find an elegant and effective solution that makes me, and my client happy,

  7. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  8. A: My inspirations include Ludwig Goransson, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, Flying Lotus, The Beatles, Brian Wilson, Mark Hollis, and many others.

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: My work is primarily music for media, specifically film and television. I specialize in synthesis and sound design, which come from my modular synthesizer as well as other hardware and software synthesizers.
