Matheus was prompt, super patient and flexible. He was happy to make as many changes as necessary and was very fast in providing them. Very pleased with the end result and will use him again in the future.

Once again, Matheus delivered an impeccable mix. He knew how to use effects well, kept the master volume high, and paid attention to the changes I requested, always willing to make them. He's a professional who is easy to work with and very attentive to the client. I highly recommend him!

One more track with Matheus, and I'll say it again: the guy is good! He has great taste for effects and keeps the vocals very clean and prominent in the mix. He does an excellent job, and most importantly, he doesn't hesitate to redo something to achieve what his client asks for. Highly recommended!

I love how big and nice the mix sounds. The instruments and vocals have a perfect blend and there is always that wonderful professional sound every time I work with Matheus.

I've worked with this engineer a few times now and this time around I had him mix a couple of songs, all of different music-styles. As a producer I am somewhat unconventional and also a bit picky— a tricky combination for engineers, but Matheus was able to exceed my expectations greatly as we discussed my goals and visions for the songs. Again, Matheus's work is masterful.

Matheus is badass. He commits himself to the product in a way that almost no other sound engineer does. We pass on the idea and he hits it and transforms the product into something very professional. I've worked with him several times, and I've always seen excellent results.

Wild as it seems, Matheus keeps growing and maturing as an engineer, even looking at our songs with the ears of a producer - suggesting subtle improvements and arrangements that take our work to amazing new levels!

This is the fourth time I've come back to Matheus to engineer a song for me. I'm super grateful to have found him. With my approval, I let Matheus do some creative mixing, and every time I'm astounded by what comes out. He has a great ear and knows just what to do to make a song sound excellent.

Matheus is a skilled mix engineer who can take a mix in any direction you may require.
I knew what I wanted to achieve for something and once I was able to communicate this properly, Matheus understood and in the end as to my directions he achieved the result I was looking for.He also has a very positive attitude and is kind and humble, which is a huge benefit of working with him.

I'm normally someone who can be anxious to work with new mixing engineers as I have had bad experiences previously but boy did Matheus do his JOB!!! Such an incredibly talented mixing engineer!!! He got my vision down perfect and stayed enthusiastic during the whole process. This is someone who truly cares about their craft and enjoys bringing projects to life. He will care about your project just as much as you do and is very receptive to feedback. :) Highly highly highly recommend

Absolutely blown away by all of the details in this mix. I asked for it to sound big and heavy too, and boy did I get just that. Incredible, moving, outright awesome. And when I say details, I mean things like subtle panning in the effects, exemplary vocal delays, perfect sound staging, all in a super nicely glued together track.

Another work, another hit! Matheus is not only technically proficient, but emotionally invested in the quality of the projects - and this is a plus that we can't put a price to. In this particular case he showed enormous patience with us... and he never lost the positive attitude. Props and thanks are in order!

Matheus continues to grow under our very eyes (or ears!). Not only is he fantastic at his job, but his an absolute pleasure to work with - polite, detail-oriented, dependable, and tasteful. Can't say enough good things about him!

I am impressed by how seamless this experience has been for the second job now. I'm not sure if simply our preferences align or if this engineer actually knows magic. Either way, I am grateful for his technique as well as the creative flair he provided as an option for this specific job.

It is very clear that this engineer is extremely clever and good at what he does. I feel what makes a track good are the tiny details and there are so many little things Matheus did for my project that really took it to the next level. He also excelled at understanding my goals and visions and he gracefully accomplished these things.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Matheus - not only because of his talent and ear, which you can hear on his demo - but his dedication, responsiveness and openness to make sure we did right by the songs. An experience we look forward to repeat!

Interview with Matheus Antunes
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I am especially proud of is working on the EP "Tarut" by Matheus Coringa, Mandnah, and Babidi. The EP featured incredible lyrics and production, and I was amazed by the opportunity to contribute as the mixing engineer.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: There isn't anyone specific I would recommend at the moment. However, I am confident that the platform is full of incredibly capable professionals.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I work 100% in the box, and I can achieve any sound I am looking for. But, both analog and digital technologies have their strengths and weaknesses. I think of it all as tools, different tools.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I absolutely love being connected with new artists and new songs around the clock. It's incredibly inspiring to have a positive impact on a piece of music as a mixer. There's something deeply rewarding about taking raw tracks and transforming them into a more cohesive, polished, and impactful piece.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I began my career path in architecture, but soon realized my true passion was in music production. I left my architecture studies to pursue audio production, gaining hands-on experience before enrolling in university to study it formally. During my studies, I had the opportunity to learn from renowned mixing engineer Jaycen Joshua, which greatly influenced my techniques and approach. This experience provided me with the skills and confidence to pursue a career in mixing engineering. I've been working as a mixing engineer for four years now, focusing on delivering clear, balanced, and emotionally impactful mixes. My dedication to serving the music's needs has allowed me to build a diverse client base and steadily grow my business.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: There are countless artists I would love to work with, each bringing their unique style and creativity to the table. I'm inspired by musicians across various genres who push the boundaries of their craft and continuously innovate.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My setup is simple. For mixing, all I need is to be able to listen properly, so acoustics, monitoring, and conversion play a great role in what I do. That is where I focus my setup around.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: As a mixing engineer, the most common type of work I do for my clients involves taking their recorded tracks and blending them into a cohesive, polished final product. My goal is always to elevate the artist's vision, ensuring their music sounds professional and radio-ready. I work closely with artists and producers to understand their goals and provide feedback, making the mixing process a collaborative effort.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: At the moment, I am working on a couple of singles and a EP for Brazilian artists, as well as a Single project for a German artist.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will always approach their project with professionalism, care, and attention to detail. This means that I will work closely with clients to understand their vision and goals for the project, and to deliver a mix that meets or, hopefully, exceeds their expectations. Clear communication and transparently throughout the process, providing regular updates and feedback to ensure that the project is progressing smoothly, is crucial.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Customers often ask if their project aligns with my style and expertise as a mixer. While the answer varies from project to project, I generally find a connection with what they are creating. Additionally, common questions include how to deliver files, turnaround times, rates, and deliverables. I provide clear guidance on file preparation, ensure reasonable turnaround times, and discuss rates and deliverables upfront to maintain transparency.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask about the direction they are going for, specifically what they envisioned during the production stage. I also inquire about their influences to understand their creative identity better. My goal is to get as close as possible to what the client has in mind for the song. Additionally, I always ask about their vision for the final mix to ensure our goals are aligned.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure to listen to the provider’s previous work to understand their style and quality. Knowing what you’re looking for will make your search easier. Also, don't hesitate to reach out and ask questions. Direct communication can provide valuable insights and be the deciding factor in choosing the right professional for your project.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Computer, Monitors, DAC, Headphone and Acoustics if that is considered a piece of gear.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is characterized by a full and dynamic low end, along with clarity, balance, and emotion. I create well-balanced mixes where each element has its own space, and I aim for an emotionally impactful sound. Ultimately, my goal is to serve the music and provide what it needs.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: I would say, try closing your eyes whenever you can, that helps a lot in improving your critical listening and perception of what is really going on. Controversially, when creating, not overthinking about it can be extremely helpful.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I would say that my strongest skill is attention to detail. Apart from being a creative process, mixing is also a highly technical process that requires a keen ear and a meticulous approach to achieve a great sounding mix. I pride myself on paying close attention to every aspect of the mix, from editing and cleaning up tracks to setting levels, applying any processing needed and effects. I believe that by being detail-oriented, I am able to achieve a polished and professional mix.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a unique combination of technical expertise and creative vision to every song I work on. My goal is to enhance the artist's original vision and bring out the best in their music. I love a mix with great extension, depth and dynamic. That does not mean it can't be loud as well if it needs to.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Well, before getting into it, I just make sure I have all the files, everything is working and nothing is missing or needs to be exported again. As a mixing engineer who mixes 100% in the box, my typical work process involves organizing the session, editing and cleaning up tracks and balancing the overall mix before I start any mixing, per se. I absolutely love experimenting with effects and depth and space perception within the mixing stage. Getting creative with this is an undescribable feeling. Of course, each project is unique, so I can't really predict all the steps, even though there is a common path I usually follow.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: It is not uncommon for people to think that mixing is 100% independent of the music itself, when, in reality, I would say it is the opposite. That is why every mix is unique.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work in a range of different styles, but the majority of my projects are in Hip-Hop, Pop, R&B, and Electronic genres.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I get most of my inspiration from discovering new sounds. The originality of a production, independently of which professional it comes from.
