Break ups are my favorite to write about, but coming from a pretty dark childhood, I have plenty to pull from when it comes to let downs and heart break. Interview with Taylor Schealler
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to give you everything I have to help you make a song that means something to a lot of people
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love being able to hear my inner thoughts be brought out of my head, off of paper, and into the universe. There's nothing like it.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Probably that the lyrics don't madder. There are 3 reasons a song becomes popular. Good lyrics, Good melody, Good vocals.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What kind of music do you like to listen to? What kind of sound are you looking for? If you had to give the song a TV rating, what would it be? (ie; PG, PG-13, R)
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I would say try to match up your styles, but also don't be afraid to extend out of your zone. Sometimes the most interesting songs are those that shouldn't make sense, but just do.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Camera, Cell Phone, Laptop(we can always Hotspot, right?), guitar, speaker
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I am a CNA, photographer, makeup artist, wife, and mother. I have been writing as long as I can remember.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is very dark and edgy while also fun in a weird way. Fresh and relatable.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Lennon Stella. I think she has the potential to bring lyrics to life effortlessly. Ariana Grande would be a dream! For obvious reasons.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't force lyrics. If you are searching for a way to rhyme something and it seems a little far fetched, it probably is.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I would say I like to work on the R&B style. Something with a little bit of an up-tempo while still able to have that melody we all love to get stuck in our heads.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Rhyming things while still maintaining the storyline in a way that makes sense.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I have always been able to put things that many people go though into words that others are not able to express. I am very comfortable explaining my thoughts and feelings in a way that is able to be understood by the majority. I also like to bring a little bit of pop culture freshness to any song just for fun.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My best lines come to me at night before I go to sleep. Then I am able to build off of that the next morning immediately when I wake up. I can typically have a full song rough draft done in a day, making touchups the next day.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Just a girl with a laptop.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Alicia Keys is one of my favorite song writers and such an inspiration to me, personally. Julia Micheals is another one of my favorite writers.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Break up song lyrics
