In today’s music industry, the best skill set to have is versatility. That’s what I bring to the table every time! Being creative and pushing for a different sound and idea is always my goal. I specialize in both drum patterns and piano/organ. I’ve played both instruments since age 2, #1 jazz drummer for IMEA ‘02-‘04 and Music Ed @ South Suburban.
I will mix, edit & produce your song to your liking within 48-72 hour turnaround. Two revisions max.

Interview with Young VerZ
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My most recent project is with a Pop/R&B singer Charlie Moon. My role was to recording, arrangement, mixing & mastering. Once I seen the music video come out to match the arrangements I put together, it was a proud moment for me. That song is currently out now.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: i'm currently working on my first Beat Tape. I don't want tor reveal the name just yet
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: One of my mentors goes by the name 'Stereo'. He helped me really grasp mixing concepts. I had the hardest time comprehending compression until he showed me. His work is GREAT!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Although I use some analog emulation plug-ins, I love the fact that all my tools are accessible in the box. Needless to say I am capable of operating a patch bay as well, I just don't have one at home lol. I can work from home in the box & still get a quality sound.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is top tier customer service as well as quality products. I am most pleased with the satisfaction of a happy client.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love being a musician in general! This IS my life's work. I live, breathe & sleep music.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Most questions directed to me are about my opinion on the song's direction, particular melodies used or creative edits. My answer is always honest & depends on the song. I make sure to provide a space where artists can be comfortable with being open with me as well as receiving constructive criticism. The end goal is always met.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: In my opinion, the biggest conception is that you can slap on some templates & the mix is automatically better lol. It's not that simple.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR THIS SONG? WHAT ARE 2 REFERNCE TRACKS SIMILAR TO WHAT YOU'RE GOING FOR?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: MAKE SURE YOUR TRACKS ARE LABELED PROPERLY W/CORRECT BPM, KEY OF SONG, WITH NO PROCESSING. I RECOMMEND RECORDING WITHOUT COMPRESSION IN YOUR CHAIN & PREPARED TO SHARE YOUR VISION WITH THE ENGINEER AND/OR PRODUCER.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: -Maschine mkIII -Axiom 49 -Pulse GL66 Gaming Computer -Apollo Twin -BeyeyDynamic 990 Headphones I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY SETUP! IT'S EFFECTIVE
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I'm actually a full time musician. I've been playing organ in church for over 20 years & drums over 30 years. My goal is to become a film scorer. I love driving the emotion through the proper musical selection.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I love creating Hip Hop beats with orchestral component, but it depends on the genre. I can make many styles.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I'd love to work with Scott Storch! I love his creativity & vibe. I can only imagine what type of music we'd create together & how much I'd learn from him.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Stick to your guns!! Don't go chasing the current "type beats" sound. Stick to what makes YOU UNIQUE!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: My go to work is Hip Hop/Rap, but my goal is to get into film scoring.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My ear is my strongest skill. Before learning music ed in school I learned everything by ear. The schooling elevated it to another level. Having music theory, ear training, piano & drums/percussion under my belt really helps my production & mixing skills.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a rollercoaster of emotions, peaks & valleys, highs & lows & an overall professionalism. I'm excited to be part of an artists' project. It becomes the both of ours & know how to enjoy the process but I take it very seriously also.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: When it comes to mixing or even creating an instrumental, I tend to start with the drums. If the drums don't hit right, or make you want to dance, you have nothing. Once my kick & bass element is correct, I dial in the rest of the instruments accordingly. Up next is getting my lead vox placed correctly, followed by any background/adlib vox. Once it's sitting where I like it, I'll allow the entire track to speak to me, letting me know what it needs to be its best. After completing that task I will add my finishing touches on the master bus.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I'm running a small setup right now. I'm using UAD Apollo Twin, Pro Tools, Studio One Pro 5, Reason Studio, Maschine mkIII w/ Native Instruments 13, Axiom 49 Midi Keyboard, Two Yamaha HS 5s, BeyerDynamic DT 990 Pro(250 ohm) & my plugins of choice is the Waves Audio Diamond package alongside Fab Filter.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I like to listen to different producers like Timbaland, Mike Will Made It, Scott Storch. But, I also listen to a lot of gospel & classical musicians as well. It gives me a well rounded, balanced outlook on music as well as keeps my creativity fresh.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I do a lot of work as a recording engineer, music producer & organist.
