Asha is an awesome vocalist, and she has nailed the performance on each project I have done with her to date! If you are looking for someone with a lot of passion, and skill she is definitely worth considering. Also, she has just released her debut album which is worth the listen!

Interview with Asha
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The album I finished a few months ago because I produced it all myself 100%.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Releasing an album.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Gosteffects, we work together closely and he's very talented.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, it's easier.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will always try my best to deliver something they can be happy with at the end of the day and if I can't I will try to recommend someone who can.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I get to do what I love everyday.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you copy "x" style? or can you sing like "x" artist?
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That I can sing in any key or I have an unlimited range.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: When do you need this done by, do you want me to try stuff out that you didn't list here, how close does it have to be to the reference? What's your release plan?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: It's ok if you don't know exactly what you're looking for, but also sometimes it's worth giving the person your hiring some creative control to let them try something interesting that you may not have expected.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A guitar, some sort of voice recorder, a pad of paper, a pencil and a tuner.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I studied classical piano and composition growing up, then I went to Northeastern University and majored in Music Technology and Composition. After I graduated I moved to New York City where I eventually got a job writing music for advertising and now I am a freelance producer and composer. I've also worked on video games, short films and feature films as well as stage works, as well as sound design.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Electronic indie.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Pinar Toprak, because she's the first woman to score a major super hero film. I think what she's doing is incredible and I would love to learn from her.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Doubling vocals where you can always adds a nice quality the recording, but sometimes just a solo vocal is totally ok and works better.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly pop electronic, sometimes I've been hired of EDM and trance tracks on here.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I am extremely good at writing and producing quickly and delivering a product within a short amount of time. I'm also great at getting feedback and revising because of the nature of my work.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring the Asha quality. I feel like I have a distinct vision and voice and that's what people hire me for.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually get a brief and some reference tracks and try to figure out how to get to that idea with my own spin on it.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a laptop and some nice speakers and mics, as well as quite a few instruments in my studio space. I don't think having a fancy studio is important, what's important is how you use the equipment you have.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I've always been a big fan of Trent Reznor when he was just a producer/musician, and now I am very interested in his career in film scoring. I think he's a great creative to look up to for inspiration because of his unique background.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: On SoundBetter most of the work I do is vocal recording, and lyric and topline writing. Usually I get a track from an artist and they know they want a catchy hook and some female vocals and I basically finish the track for them.
