Vocalist with 30+ years of studio and live experience. I have performed and recorded with such artists as Bill Pinkney and the Original Drifters, Pat Patrick Band, Kathy Kosins, General Johnson and the Chairmen, Detroit Memphis Experience, Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, Maria Howell, Bonnie Bramlett, Bekka Bramlett, Arthur Smith, Johnny Neel, Larry Henley, and many more.

I have also performed vocal tracks for Pocket Songs/MMO, Stellar, All-star Karaoke and Sound Choice Karaoke for many years, and continue to perform tracks for them to date, as well as jingles, demos, and music used in Season 8 of Desperate Housewives and the movie Shadow Dancer, starring Clive Owen and Gillian Andersen as well as FAB FIVE: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal opening credits.

Interview with Darryl Johnson

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Rocket 88 -- A Tribute To Ike Turner (2009) because it was nominated in the first round Grammy nominations for that year.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: New single for Valentines Day release

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Analog for the warmness of the sound. It sounds more real. DIgital because of speed and convenience

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: You will LOVE what I deliver!!

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I get to do what I love. I make good music for good people and I GET PAID to do it. "Find something in life that you love enough that you would do it for free. THEN, find a way to make it pay you..." -- Judge Greg Mathis

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: That I have to be in a recording studio to do it. I have everything I need Right here and MOST vocal offerings you hear are from my home studio.

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: Computer, Protools, Mic, Headphones, music

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: My style lends itself to the listener saying, "Damn, where have I heard him before?" I am very familiar and inviting. I draw the listener into the song with me, where we have a GOOD TIME!!!

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: Al Green because his recording of How Can You Mend A Broken Heart is the reason I do this to begin with. I remember crying when I heard that song and not knowing why but knowing I definitely wanted to be able to affect someone like that.....TODAY, I can!!

  19. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  20. A: Always LISTEN

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: Soul/R&B

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: Reading People

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: I bring my style and emotion. I am very good at interpreting what a song is trying to say, and sayin it to the listener. I approach every song from the listening standpoint before the performance. I try to put myself in their shoes/headphones

  28. A: ProTools 11 MBox Mini MXL V-66 Microphone FAST turnaround.......Reasonable Rates!!!

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: I Arrange, perform, record, and edit lead and background vocals
