Hi! I'm Emily and I'm a professional singer songwriter specializing in hooky melodies and harmonies. I perform a blend of pop and folk, but I sing and write in a variety of genres, including electronic, country, and blues.
I have over a decade of experience writing, singing, and recording my own music and working on other people's projects out of a home studio in northern Virginia. I've got a great ear for stacking parts and a flexible voice that can match the style of your genre/project as needed. I love working on a wide variety of projects - contact me and tell me about yours!
Whether you're looking for vocals, writing or both, I'd love to give your project that extra something special. I'm fast and creative, I take directions well, and I take deadlines seriously.

Emily is a fantastic singer, writer, and performer. She's a joy to work with in the studio, and would be an asset to any musical project. She also happens to be a wonderful human!
Emily Henry is a brilliant singer/ songwriter with theoretical knowledge and outstanding customer service. I hired Emily for an intro and outro theme song for a podcast that I produce. Being a music novice, I was worried that I would struggle to explain my needs in a way that would get me a final product that matched what I had imagined, but Emily made the creative approach to songwriting accessible for me in a way that was both easy and fun. The final product she delivered was everything I wanted and more and we constantly get comments from our listeners about how much they love it!
Interview with Emily Henry
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm incredibly inspired by Imogen Heap, who invented her own performance technology and is constantly challenging herself as an artist and challenging the music industry to keep up! She inspires me to keep learning and trying new things, because you can find unbelievable beauty in the unknown.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: "FEELINGS"! I can do gritty/husky, clear and bell-like, or Florence and the Machine-esque wailing, but the common thread is always Having a Lot of Feelings. I love finding the emotional core of whatever I'm working on and really bringing it to the surface.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Have some really solid ideas about what you want beforehand, even if that just means a reference track or two. It's so much easier to be creative for a project when there are a few guidelines!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: A fantastic vocalist and writer, Heather Mae - she's your girl if you need a power belter!
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I'm really happy with a project I just completed, the theme song for a podcast called "The Way We Lead". I wrote, produced, sang, and played guitar on the track. It was a ton of fun writing different options, trying to convey a cheerful, inspiring mood to the audience. I'd love to do more work in the podcast sphere!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of the work I do is work-for-hire session vocals, followed by toplining.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My goal is to bring honest emotion to every project I'm a part of. If it makes you feel, I did my job.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Most of what I work on is pop or pop-related!
